[the camera shows -- the road. a lazy voice pipes] No... Roxas, that's the wrong way.

I don't need your help. [somewhat sullenly. Roxas turns the D-terminal around so that it focuses on his face, but he's not looking at it, now focused on the Digimon offscreen] You won't go away?

Of course not. I'm your partner.

Fine. Then... you may as well remember something for me. A name. It's-- [Roxas pauses. it's a long pause, and then his eyes widen] What was it?

Well... what did it start with?

Give me a minute, I'm trying to think-- Sh... Something with... [blankly, and increasingly frustrated] I can't believe I forgot again. Sh... She...

[you should probably interrupt him because he is really distracted and has forgotten what he was doing and that this thing is still on. feel free to stumble across him in person, too; he's just hanging out, sleepy evil koala on a low wall next to him]

Roxas?

[ because he heard right, right? Sora's scrambling to look at the D-T again. ]

[ HE HAS NO IDEA WHO ROXAS IS TRYING TO FIND BUT THAT'S OKAY.

because if there's ONE PERSON that Sora would like to see here and moving around... it's probably: ]

Roxas!

[there's something familiar about that-- the voice, or maybe the enthusiasm, drawing his attention back to the voice from the communicator and distracting him from his thoughts. it's unmistakably someone who knows him rather than someone just repeating his name a bunch of times, but...]

Who are you?

[sorry, Sora]

[the reaction is reflex because he doesn't recognize the person he sees there, but it still teases at the back of his mind. he has seen you before, hasn't he? a little older, and a little lighter...]

...You're the boy from those dreams. [right? he thinks that's right]

[ not... the reaction that he had been expecting! ]

You don't know me?

[ and immediately Sora shakes his head. that sort of thing really doesn't matter. it could be those weird time or other reality things at work. only time will tell ( haha ). but for now, Sora is just going to be happy that Roxas is around - someone that really deserves a chance to get out and be his own person. opportunities to meet and make more friends.

a smile returns to his face instead. and if it is one of the other things? Sora's dealt with it before and he'll deal now. it's not about him anyway. 8V ]

I don't know if I've been in your dreams or not, Roxas... But I do know you. We don't really get a lot of chances to talk.

I'm Sora.

Sora? [a little sharper, a little more focused; some of the aimless, lost feeling fading. he'd thought that being here meant he'd never get answers to his questions, but this is Sora. he studied the other intently]

...I was looking for you. How -- do we know each other?

You were? Why?

[ that's kind of news to him. kind of. it's not like Sora can answer where he had been at that time either - so much of his own memory after dealing with a Xehanort possessing Riku until waking in Twilight Town is just gone. nothing. so who KNOWS what could've happened. ]

By the time I met you, you already knew who I was.

[Sora haven't you heard about our short attention span] [side-tracked briefly] By the time you-- What's that supposed to mean? I guess maybe I knew who you were before... but I don't remember that. That's why I'm asking.

[still, it doesn't feel quite right. Sora didn't phrase it like he was just talking about the past. and if Sora knew him when he was human, how could he know his Nobody name?]

[ ha ha. short attention spans. nope. have NO IDEA what those are or how they work. ]

Um. [ he scratches his cheek. how does he... explain this. because it's kinda obvious that this Roxas doesn't know. ]

Roxas... Before I can really answer that, you're not the same person as your Other. You are your own person - with your own heart and everything. Basically, you and your Other are two separate people with two different hearts.

What are you talking about? I-- If you know what I am, you know I don't have a heart. [a little edgy]

Roxas--

And that's fine. [definitively] I don't need one.

...I was doing just fine. [he was happy, he'd have said, but Axel always felt the need to remind him that he couldn't be happy without a heart, and so it feels like he'd be opening himself up to a debate he doesn't feel like having] I don't care about that stuff. All I want is for people to stop trying to keep me from the truth.

[it's a slightly touchy subject]

[ kinda doesn't want everyone to be hearing this. SOME TACT. TERRA SHOULD BE PROUD. ]

Roxas... [ takes a breath! ] I'm not keeping you from the truth. I'm trying to tell you the truth. Xemnas lied to all of you and part of that lie was that you guys needed to make that Kingdom Hearts to get a heart.

And it's important for you to know that you have one all your own. I might be your Other and you might be my Nobody, but we're not the same people. We're completely different people.

[private filters are for people who....... know how things work]

[his expression stiffens a little at those first words, flattening into something cold and angry. there's a large part of him that can't understand it, that doesn't want to believe it; it's such a huge statement with such immense repercussions that he wants to deny it instinctively. so much of his life, all their lives, has been tied up in that one fundamental assumption: that they need hearts to be whole, and they need Kingdom Hearts to get them]

[but Roxas knows all too well that Xemnas is a liar and a manipulative jerk, and so on some level, he can't even really be surprised]

[until Sora says the rest of it]

Wait-- Back up. [he shakes his head] You're saying you-- were my Other? [but that's not quite what he said] ...You're still whole. [was that a lie, too...?]

[he studies Sora, his brows drawn together. he can't... say it doesn't make sense to him on some level. maybe more than just one level]

Yeah. [ a nod. ] I am. Whole, that is. I didn't exactly stay a Heartless for very long, you know. Kairi brought me back as me.

And I'm thinking that you were still around. You have so many memories of time spend with your friends - Axel and that other girl - that there's no way you and I didn't exist at the same time.

I'd like to think that it's because you got a heart.

[ now that he doesn't really know, but he's hopeful, okay. ]
