video;

Okay, I know there are other Digimon with Chosen that have had this problem so please, please hear me out, okay? Or even some other Chosen can answer for me to, that's all right.

[ it's a Patamon on screen, only he's whispering to the device. as he moves the camera, some of the cafe can be seen in passing before its focus is on this guy, still staring at the menus. fortunately, Starscream isn't wearing anything that would give himself away as a Decepticon immediately just a precaution really, what with running into Prime right away - one heart attack at a time, all right?. but no, he's just staring intently at all of the options. ]

He's been like this for hours and I know it's because he doesn't know what sort of things he'd like or not, but c'mon!

[ and Starscream seems to notice, turning his head and blinking owlishly at his parnter. ]

Are you recording?

I'm asking for help since you can't make up your mind.

[ instead of rebuking the other, he rubs at his neck such a weird feeling! and offers a small smile. ] I suppose I would be open to suggestions...

[It's Terra. And the very tips of Dorumon's ears at the lower edge of the screen.]

Ask for a little sample of everything, when you get the chance. Have a sip or two of water between each sample, and try to remember which ones you like and which ones you don't. It's the only real way to find out what you like and don't, and probably they'll be obliging.

I've found most chefs worth their metaphorical salt are more than happy to show off for a new customer. One that has never tasted food before might well be a dream come true. It doesn't hurt to ask.

[Or so Terra thinks. It's a reasonable request, and some chefs would trip over themselves for the opportunity to get at a completely blank culinary slate.]

[That draws a pause, as Terra scours his memory for an actual ANSWER, crossing his arms over his chest and frowning thoughtfully. He learned this. He's sure of it. After a moment, he actually comes up with an answer.]

A long time ago in human history, before currency was the exchange of precious metals, salt was considered extremely valuable as it was usually hard to get. Thus saying someone is 'worth their salt' is saying they're valuable or worthwhile. Nobody uses salt that way anymore but the phrase stuck. ... Ah, salt also goes into cooking too.

[The response only takes a moment of thought this time.]

Avoid anything alcoholic until you're with people you know and trust. Someone is sure to try to get you to try it for a laugh; it'll have impairing effects on your mind and senses. You'll know when you taste it, if you have other drinks first. Alcohol has a bitter, occasionally burning taste to it. If you find your drink unpleasant tasting or bitter on the first sip, don't drink it.

[That might ruin someone's fun but honestly, that's not the sort of fun Terra thinks people should be having.]

[Something in Terra's tone turns sour.]

I can't imagine it's just something humans do to each other. There's probably that sort of unpleasant person here too, just looking for a cheap laugh at someone else's expense. Best be careful just in case.

It'll be unpleasant, likely. ... Heck, that goes for any food you try. If you immediately don't like it, don't drink or eat it. ...Ah. Good luck. And welcome to being human.

Maybe it is. You've certainly arrived.

[There were things others might say, about life being a journey or whatever but Terra wasn't overly fond of studying philosophy and was content with the practical parts.]

I'd offer some better advice about how to adapt but I've never been anything but human.

Having someone explain it only goes so far. My kind learn best by doing. If you're one of us for now, maybe that'll hold true for you too. There isn't a lot that I can really recommend that you won't find out pretty easily on your own.

[But he'll try. It's hard to explain to someone how to be human when he always had been.]

... Bathing will be important, but yuo should be fine for another day or two.

...A good idea, I guess.

[But Terra's really bad at just randomly coming up with things to warn someone about! He thinks for a moment, then shakes his head.]

It's a lot to cover. If you have any specific questions it might help a bit. I'm not really good at explaining things.

[Refueling. That's an interesting way to look at it, and one that might change. Simply putting gas in the metaphorical engine had nothing on a delicious meal.

Still, Terra considers it.]

How many meals you have actually depends on how active you are. If you're doing a lot of activity it's best to have four or six smaller meals all spread out. 'Balanced' depends again on what you do and a little on if you have moral difficulties with eating flesh. Hydration.. well.

[He gestures a bit.]

If you're thirsty, drink. If you're not, don't. If you haven't been thirsty yet you'll run into the feeling sooner or later. The human body is well tuned to telling you what it needs and when, when it's healthy. Since yours is brand new it's probably pretty healthy right now.

Life has a tendency to do that to people. Usually when they least expect it.

[He'd offer some kind of reassurance, but that's... actually pretty difficult for him to do.]

We usually get years of practice before we're expected to do anything with being human, you're ... not going to have that time, I think.

I don't think you'd be missing much. There's probably good reasons we don't remember being infants.

[Terra falls silent for a time, uncertain what else to possibly advise. Eating, bathing, watching out that other people don't slip in alcohol when there shouldn't be any.. what else did a new organic need to know?

... He was coming up blank. This is seriously out of his usual.]

Ah. Well. If you need anything specifically, and have a question or something, if someone else can't answer it I'll do my best. Until then I should probably let you get on to the food sampling parts.
