So, uhm...

[ Shannon clears his throat. ]

This is belated, and not really my style, but I'd like to apologize for not getting the emergency response team mobilized or even put together in time for the attack on Terminal Tokyo last week. Now that things have begun to settle, could I get a show of hands for how many of you are still around?

[ Beat, and then he attaches the current roster: here. Well, Kera does it for him, but semantics. ]

Anyone who's interested in the idea can fill out that attached forum and I'll add you as well. This lull is probably our best bet to getting everyone up to speed and hopefully training everyone in the skills they want or need.

None of us were as prepared as we should have been. There's nothing to apologize for.

I'd be surprised if you had a plan for giant slagging Digimon suddenly destroying the city. Even.. if it does seem to happen a lot around here.

[Shrugs.]

Anyway, yeah. I'm still here. Not sure where I'm going, but I'm still here.

[ Which is to say fuck that. That whole thing was just terribly shitty. ]

We could have tried holding them apart or otherwise minimizing damage to the city while everyone else got out safe.

[ He holds in the sigh threatening to emerge. ]

That might as well make two of us.

....Have you ever fought against a Digimon that level before? I have and guess what, running was the best we could do. Scrap holding them back. Just be happy there were two of them to fight each other so we could escape with our afts intact.

[Grumble.]

Great. Have you heard from anyone else or is the little defense force reduced to two people on the opposite ends of the world?

[Eli's sitting nearby, tossing the now Puttimon Pip up in the air, who is squealing in delight and flapping his little wings in joy whenever he's tossed.]

[ Shannon's just sitting on the foot of the bed, dressed more or less like he doesn't plan to get out of bed for the rest of the day. He's hoping he can get away with blaming it on said head scrambling. ]

That's beside the point. Nobody knows about that, nor are they going to. [ Beat. ] That's not some kind of weird cry of pain he's making, is it?

Just Yu and Eli. [ Which... he's not going to clarify that "Yu" is a name and not "you". Why would he do that? ]

But there's time yet.

Probably because that'd be really uncomfortable to mention. "I couldn't lead the evacuation because I was too busy reliving one of the memories of my previous life in which I was an insane dragon god hellbent on keeping his position and willing to sacrifice his wife and eight children to do so." [He stops tossing Pip into the air, who makes a frustrated noise at the lack of tossing, and just looks over at Shannon.] What, no, he's having fun. How could you think that was a pain noise?

...Wait, why are you still in bed?

No shit. That's exactly why they aren't going to know. Thus... why I'm saying something. Fuck me if I'm going to let this fall apart because people think I can't keep it going.

[ Kera, who has been near the head of the bed and apparently cuddling up to a pillow while watching his partner be an idiot, shifts and waddles his way over to lightly poke Pip with a tentacle. ] Babies are weird.

It's just one of those days, Eli.

I don't plan on telling them because there's no way I'm ending up in charge of the emergency response teams.

[Eli keeps an eye on Kera to see what he does, but there's no need. Pip's got this covered. When he gets poked, Pip burbles grumpily and chomps down on the offending tentacle.] Like you're one to talk, Merlin.

One of those days, huh? You get enough sleep last night?

Says my second in command.

[ Kera yelps, hands coming to the baby Pip to pry his mouth open and free his appendage. Somehow he manages the presence of mind to not hurt the tiny little thing, perhaps through a soft spot for young ones, but he immediately sulks off to wrap himself up and around Shannon's shoulders. ]

Who the heck's Merlin?

The usual. [ Sleep hasn't been so easy, these last few nights. Images haunt his dreams which is quite traumatizing when he doesn't have the presence of mind to sort through it.

Except this goes a bit awry when Kera suspiciously looks down at Shannon from his new perch point. ] You're warm.

Present, but currently in San Francisco. [A beat.] At least they tell me it's San Francisco, but there are a lot fewer people here than I remember. Either way, I'm enjoying it.

I don't think "enjoying it" is accurate. You stole a house! [Leormon sounds livid about this.]

Borrowed. I'm borrowing the house until I no longer feel like being in San Francisco.

You really have to learn to just. . . accept that Ryan does weird things, Tugs.

So, there's four of us so far.

Lets hope the rest report in so we can figure things out.

What's done is done. At least we all made it out alive at the end, which is the most important thing.

Second in command still isn't in charge.

[Pip sounds sad when Kera sulks off, but gets distracted by Eli tossing him into the air once more.]

Merlin's a wizard from legend, squidlet.

...So, not really sleeping. [He looks at Kera, frowning.] Wait, warmer than usual?

Damn close, though.

[ Shannon is now trying to disentangle Kera from his shoulders, but the digimon is stuck on pretty tight while he puts a hand both over Shannon's forehead and neck. ]

Hey, get off. You're stifling.

Yeah, warmer than usual. Is that normal?

It's not going to be a constant roster, I knew that from the start, but you're right. We need a better plan.

Right, I remember the San Fran stop. [ He also remembers having to drag Eli back onto the Trailmon else they would end up conquering it in the name of... whatever Eli represents. Certainly not Thomas Hawkins. ] You stayed?

[ Due to the text, Kera is reading it aloud for Shannon. They're too lazy to find text-to-voice and this works just as well. ]

Do we know that for sure?

Close but no cigar.

[He puts Pip down on the ground gently before walking over and moving the hand on Shannon's forehead and replacing it with his own.]

No, it's not normal. Looks like he's getting sick and didn't want to tell us.

I'm waiting to see if the new town gets destroyed too. If two weeks go by and nobody tries to blow up that one, then I'll leave.

He said he was going to build an apocalypse bunker otherwise.

And maybe conquer San Francisco in the name of . . . France or something. I don't know, we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

[ Shannon flinches back out of principle, even though he knew Eli was on his way as soon as Kera spoke up. Speaking of, Kera still isn't letting go but he does let Eli feel for himself. ]

It's nothing. Just weary from all the travel. I don't get sick.

You don't?

I don't. My immune system's steel-clad. You're worrying for nothing. [ That's for Eli. Even though he does feel much warmer than usual. For most people, this would be the point to call the hospital and start freaking out. ]

Conquer it in the name of America. It's not like it's in America anymore, might as well make sure it stays in the right hands.

Bunker sounds good right about now. Could have used one of those. [ Grumblegrumble. ]

California's practically another country, though, so maybe I'll just conquer it in the name of California.
