video;
[HOORAY, EVERYONE CAN SEE AGAIN.]
[Which means the video image of this loser can be seen loud and clear, so to speak. He's not up on top of the phone booth anymore, which is probably good. But now he seems to have found a bench or something to huddle up on instead. He seems to be chewing over his words, uncertain how to ask these questions...]
Everyone who arrives here... do they really have a place to stay? Just given to them?
[Because being outside on the street during the blackout? Not fun.]
[When he fails to ask anything else, his creepy little Keramon peeks around the side of his shoulder. Apparently, Kagerou has graduated from ignoring it to letting it sit by him. It ducks its head, apologetically.]
Would someone mind helping him find his place, please? We tried earlier but the blackout happened...
[If it had anything else to say, Kagerou cuts it off by ending the video. Good job, buddy.]

Nonsense. Considering how things could have went, despite our defeat I believe we did fairly well. Especially considering the losses suffered by others.
[ Judging by her expression, it wasn't exactly the vote of confidence Roze wanted, but it was all she was gonna get. ]
I'm comin' around the corner in a minute. You should be able to see me.
We'll talk more in a second.
[ Closing her D-Terminal, Roze came around a build and raised her hand in greeting, shouting from across the street.]
Yo! Haha, nice. I knew I was gettin' this place figured out.
[ The video on the D-Terminal didn't really do her justice - she was often described as Amazonian. At six foot tall and always wearing four inch heels, she towered over most people. Couple that with her penchant for revealing clothes and centerfold bosom, and the pink-haired woman with the green eyes was certainly physically imposing.
Still, that disarming smile tended to take away from the overwhelming presence of her and give people something to focus on rather than 'holy hell, that is one huge, tattooed girl'. ]
Greetings and salutations. Roze and Musashi to the rescue of a gentleman in distress and his faithful companion.
[ She thrust out her right hand for a shake, leaving her bandaged left arm hanging at her side. ]
[He's about to keep asking, even as the keramon's hand on his arm quiets him again. He just nods, instead, falling silent until she appears.]
[He's still huddled on the bench, all leg and broad shoulders, entirely too thin, and wearing an eyepatch over one eye. His hair looks unkempt, clothing a little ragged. He's been out here a while, after all. The Keramon stays close, always within touching distance. Whatever had passed between them in the dark... it appears to have helped, to some extent.]
[He just... stares. Human beings in general fall somewhere between perplexing and terrifying. His shoulders hunch, like they're trying to spread wings no longer there. Trying to make him look larger, leftover avian instincts.]
Gentleman...?
[His visible eye flicks down to her hand. Then back up again. What is that supposed to mean?]
[... so it's the Keramon who offers out its own hand to the woman, instead.]
His name is Kagerou. He's very reserved, I'm sorry.
[ Action ]
[ She shook the Keramon's hand without the least bit of disrespect. So far as she was concerned, Digimon were no less people than anyone else and she just treated them like smaller, more unusual Chosen Children. ]
And you? Well, you guys tend to go by your type name, huh? So I'll just call you Jack for now. You look kinda like a character from a movie back home. So, Jack or Skelly, your choice.
[ Her handshake was brief, firm, terribly unlady-like but very much her. So was the large smile that just seemed forever in place, bespeaking her constant amusement. ]
Gentleman, yeah. Its a way of saying a man of substance and good manner. Come on you two. You look a mess and you need to get sorted. Come on.
[ No protests allowed. One hand went to Keramon, the other reached out and gently gripped Kagerou's. Kotemon took Kermon's other hand with one of his sleeve-covered own,, the stoic little digimon simply following Roze's lead. taht, and after the darkness he had learned to appreciate the buddy-system. Mama Roze to the rescue, her usual flirt-mode switched off long enough to make her less of a nuisance. For now anyways. She was terrible at keeping her feet out of her mouth.
Giving a light tug to both, she nodded towards a building not terribly far away. ]
There's a cafeteria too. I don't know if you're normally a human or not, but its pretty important that you eat now. The food in the cafeteria is free. If you want anything fancy you gotta pay for it at one of the shops elsewhere in town. Chances are good most everything is closed for a couple days while we fix up from the dark mess other the last week, but pretty soon we'll get the place in better shape. You'll see.
You wanted to ask about fighting, right?
Well...go ahead. We can walk and talk at the same time.
[ Action ]
[It ducks its head a little, managing to look embarrassed. Kagerou only glances at it, briefly.]
I don't have a name yet. It's all right.
[Kagerou goes rigid, when he's touched. He looks either ready to flee or fight, depending on what happens next. He doesn't move, at first, staring at her like a cornered animal. It's not until the Keramon touches his elbow that he decides, no, this isn't a danger, and slowly gets to his feet. He stands about average, though most of his height is the result of long legs. His shoulders stay hunched, and his expression remains wary.]
[But he walks, regardless.]
Cafeteria...? What... They just give it away? That simply?
[He still feels a little mystified by the idea of eating human food, but...]
I want to know how. I have no weapons. No stealth systems. How else can I fight?
Re: [ Action ]
*sigh* Lady Roze, you should not hand out names as arbitrarily as you do.
Its not arbitrary. If you saw the movie you'd think he looked kinda like the Pumpkin King, too. Besides, Jack is a fine name. Just like Musashi is a bad-ass name. Better than K-Man, right?
I will concede that I prefer Musashi to K-man. I still do not see the purpose.
Miyamoto Musashi? He was raw. Just be grateful I named you after him.
*sigh*
[ The pink-haired woman sniffed, casting a cool look over the Kotemon, who cleared his throat and fell wisely silent, focusing instead on holding hands with the Keramon. They walk on and Roze nods, humming in thought as she tries to figure out a way to explain concisely, with as few expletives as possible. ]
Um, about the cafeteria. They expect us to be reasonable, I'm sure, but they do just sort of give the food away. Its kinda necessary for them to make sure the Chosen Children aren't starving. Bein' in their best interest to keep us in the necessities, at least. Clothed, fed, clean and covered. The rooms aren't big, but they're comfortable enough and most everyone seems okay so far. Chances are whoever you're roomin' with - if you even have a roomie yet - will be cool.
[ She huffed a sigh, hand careful around Kagerou's. she didn't tend to deal with such skittish people and it was difficult not to be her usual explosively energetic self. ]
As for fightin', you don't. Not technically. Jack there, he does. Look at it kind of like this - Jack is a really awesome, super powerful computer program. Assuming you know what a computer is... He's got everything he needs to function on his own, all the best programming for combat and all, but he's missing the key-code that will let him operate. You're that code. You're all the zeroes and ones that complete his programming. When you're faced with an opponent, you gotta trust and rely on Jack. He's your best friend and confidant here.
*snort* Don't let her fool you. she completely wrote me off when she first got here. She still treats me like a child.
HEY. I'm getting better. Geez.
She is, at that. My suggestion would be to learn as much about each other as possible, train in the sparring fields with other digimon and Chosen and when there are missions available, go with a group and test your abilities on presumably weaker opponents until you are secure in your skills. Then, if something as drastic as this past week occurs again, you will be more prepared for it.
Yeah, what he said. I'd have to say most of the city was totally unprepared for that. It was pretty crazy. I'm sorry you had to get stuck in it. I was helping people back to the apartments on and off all week but...I couldn't feasibly find everyone.
[ Action ]
[The Keramon's smile dims a little, at that, but it keeps looking hopeful, all the same. He falls silent, then, his eye flicking between the two, watching and listening as they walk.]
[And then he almost draws back, hearing the explanation about roommates and what he'll have to deal with in the rooms... He tenses up again, shaking his head.]
I don't want to stay with someone. With human beings.
[Because the only ones he's trusted so far weren't really human, were they? They were like him. They'd said so. Real human beings... no. That was a step he doesn't think he can take.]
[Eventually, he settles himself enough to glance down at his Keramon, who offers a slightly more hopeful smile, in return.]
You're data?
Sort of...
Hn.
[And then it's back to not looking at the little guy. It's too much. It's just too damned much. He doesn't want a new friend. He just wants to leave...]
I just send it to fight? It's that simple?
Re: [ Action ]
No. That's not all. Its pretty dependent on you as well. Being too pushy, or cruel, or just generally negative feelings can and will have an effect. Trust is pretty important between you both, and if you don't have that connection, its in everyone's best interest if you don't push to hard.
A lot of the really nasty monsters in that darkness were just normal digimon like Musashi and Jack, that were pushed too hard, or were too frightened. They're just like anyone else - they get scared, they have feelings that get hurt.
That's pretty important to remember. Just treat them how you would want to be treated. You wouldn't want someone yelling at you and making you fight something a million times bigger than you, or calling you crap or anything, right? So...just give him the benefit of a doubt. even if you don't trust or like anyone else around here, trust that out of everyone else, Jack has only your best interests at heart.
Everyone else here has their own motives, but your digimon doesn't care about anyone but you. You complete him, pretty much.
[ She nods, looking to Kotemon for approval, who just nods slowly in reply. Sometimes it made him uncomfortable, how she acted so loud and stupid but was actually fairly competent and insightful. She just liked keeping people on their toes. ]
I don't know if you've noticed, Sweetheart, but you're human too. Everyone that comes here gets programmed to look human. Its simpler for the system to process, I gather. a lot of the people here aren't actually human though. I know there's a heap of robots, there's some turtle people, a man-gator. I'm mostly demon...so don't worry about getting stuck with humans, really, because chances are good, you're not.
[ she squeezed his hand reassuringly, lifting it slightly to point at the tall building ahead. ]
That's the apartments. You don't actually live in the same room with a person either. You'll have your own room that's completely private. No one can go in if you don't want them too, okay? If you're really lucky, you might not have anyone else in the apartment. We'll see when we get there.
[ Action ]
[Kagerou's head whips around to stare at the Keramon, who shakes its head in mute apology. They'll talk about it later. Not now -- he's much too private and withdrawn for that.]
[His shoulders hunch up again, at the rest of it. He might not comment, but... he's listening. Turning it over in his head. He doesn't want another to get that close. It feels too much like a replacement.]
Motives? Everyone?
[There's only one person in his entire life he's ever wanted to "complete". This creature isn't it.]
[She earns another silent, steady stare.] Programmed. Then... can it be changed?
[The Keramon looks up too, whispering again:] I think strangers might be a bigger problem... More than just human beings.
[The prospect of an entire room to himself is daunting, to say the least. What is he supposed to do with all that space? With a bunch of strangers? He wants to run. To fly. Something. He stays put, instead, staring at it.]
[... not to mention, the kid has no idea how to look after himself in a human body.]
I would... rather there was no one there. It would be better.
Re: [ Action ]
It'll take a little time, but if you can bear it for a little while, you'll earn a crest, and then you can use that crest to move away from everyone else and have some space of your own in one of the crested districts.
A crest you get based on whatever is strongest inside you. Sincerity, Courage, Desire. Things like that. When you finally get it, it'll help Jack be even stronger for you, and it'll benefit you because it means you don't have to live in the communal apartments anymore, if you don't want to.
Don't let it get to you. I'm sure you're a lot stronger than you're acting right now, and you'll make it just fine.
[ She nods, Tugging gently as they go around a damaged building and approach the front doors of the apartments. ]
Do you feel hungry right now? We can get you some food before we go to your room. dunno how much experience you have with being hungry. Its...uh...a twisting sensation in your mid-section. It can make you dizzy, too...
[ No doctor, she, but at least she tried. ]
You don't have to eat around everyone either. Plenty of people take food to their rooms. a lot of people here like to be alone. My pal Pretty-boy, for instance. He's a top-tier loner of epic proportions.
