[From the corner of the feed Kotemon can be seen, cautiously patting Fearless' side.]

[Hiccup can be heard groaning from the other end of the room as he tinkers with his leg with a screwdriver.]

[Hiccup just...nods slowly. He knows about robots thanks to Arcee and Wheeljack, but that's a bit over his head. Interesting as heck, but...over his head.]

I see. Guess it's weird to suddenly be human, then.

[A tiny pink light forms, right in front of the scope across Kagerou's eye. How odd that it's not bright and harsh, but rather gentle.

It floats in front of him, forming into a tiny crest. His own Crest of Light.]

[well that's legitimately the weirdest thing that's ever happened.]

[NEEDLESS TO SAY, he's pretty startled, and almost falls over trying to get back from the sudden light.]

[He'll catch it, though, staring.]

What... what just happened?

[Hiccup stares in silence for a few moments, blinking and shaking his head a little with a small smile.]

Well that....wasn't expected. But it looks like you just got your Crest, Kagerou.

M... My what?

[he's still pretty stunned by this, man.]

[Hiccup pauses to pull his own crest from beneath his tunic, holding it up so Kagerou can see. The Crest of Purity.]

Your Crest can help your partner evolve to a higher form.

[EVENTUALLY, he's sure. Fearless hasn't....gotten there just yet.]

But -- Koro can already do that.

He already changed.

[He went from being a hell muppet to a giant wolf dog.]

Well, Digimon can actually evolve further than just one stage, I've learned. They get even stronger, most of the time a lot bigger too.

And this is how they do it?

The Crests are supposed to help, yeah. But it's the same idea as before, I think...they don't actually evolve for the first time until they really need to.

Unless... they need to.

So he thought he needed to, during the fight. And never before then...? That's what you're saying?

Well...yes and no. I think Digimon will always want to get stronger, they just can't evolve without our help. Does that make sense?

Well....my original partner hasn't evolved a second time yet. I guess he just isn't quite strong enough yet.

So, they have to be stronger. And it has to be the right time...

Yep, that's as far as I know anyway. It's just something you have to work with your partner towards, as a team.

It is, a little. I'm glad they're here, though. I don't know what we would do if they weren't.

They are helpful.

But... it's difficult. Trying to become used to another "partner".
