001 | video (forward dated to the 10th)
[ The video feed clicks on to reveal a tired-looking pink Digimon, perched on the railing from which the curtain that separated the beds in the Hospitown rooms, the (stolen, if you must know) D-Terminal clutched in its claws. Biyomon paused, carefully reviewing what he had to say before actually speaking. In a soft voice, clearly trying to keep the noise level down low: ]
Finally, thought he'd never go to bed...
Are Chosen normally this bad at, say sleeping regularly? Eating? Talking to other people?
[ He wasn't asking Forte to be a social butterfly, but talking to nobody else at all was downright concerning. He'd put up with his partner's oddities, yet he couldn't let this state of affairs go for forever. The Digimon's voice grows a little more heated. ] It's been days now and my partner hasn't talked to anybody! He broods, he floats around, and he glares at everything! And that's it. Really starting to think he's either incredibly against conversation or just plain... weird.
[ Which was not to say this was the only problem Forte presented on his mind, or there weren't other off things that were slowly beginning to concern Biyomon about his partner, because there were multitudes, like the coldness in his eyes. Like the way he would stand there and look at people like they were bugs he was considering squishing. Or like that act of minor theft he'd committed upon hours after his arrival that had resulted in both of them hightailing it from the general store and then Biyomon had to flitch some BIT from their starter account unnoticed and send it back to the understandably upset store owner to pay for that brown cloak Forte had taken.
He fluffs up his feathers. ]
I noticed other partners used the Terminals when it came to stuff about their humans [ or whatever Forte was, he sure hadn't reacted well that one time Biyomon had called him one (Biyomon had not repeated that error. he liked his feathers right where they were, thank you) ] like this.
So, some veteran advice, guys? Answers? Help?

[ Biyomon leans in, hopeful for the voice of (apparent) experience in this problem to prove beneficial. His large blue eyes fixes on the screen. ] Yeah. Why do they make it such a hassle? I waited ages and ages for him! He doesn't need to be paranoid. There's no way I'd do anything that wasn't in his best interests.
[ ... ! ]
That's the trick? 'Finding out what makes him tick?' Oh boy... Sounds like I've got my work cut out for me.
[ More hesitantly; ] I don't want to dangle what he wants over his head. I want to share whatever I can with him. I shouldn't have to hold it over him like that to do that. But if it makes him finally listen to me...
[ Then, for the first time, Biyomon flinches and hunches down on the railing a little. He'd been studiously attempting to leave his partner's emotions alone once he'd realized he was having trouble even beginning to comprehend them. He didn't want to mess with things he didn't understand. Feeling the emotions, a seething ocean of insulted pride, anger, negativity and turbulence under the seemingly cold surface, raging through their connection at him already left Biyomon dazed. Forte had little good emotions to offer. ] Uh. Urm...
[ The Digimon droops miserably. ]
His... name. Some of his quirks, like how bad he is at stuff like sleeping. He doesn't want to tell me anything else about himself. Or talk to me. I don't know what's important to him. [ Frustration! It was difficult to communicate when one side refused and stayed silent and broody all the time. ]
no subject
Well, you don't have to dangle it above their heads, I suppose. You can just casually suggest. My human was a lot keener to maintain his health and sleeping habits when I mentioned being in a better shape to find his friends. That was his carrot. Obviously important to him.
And it's for their own good, isn't it?
[He hurriedly changes subjects:] Anyway, my partner doesn't talk to me either. Not for lack of trying. He physically can't... so most of what I know is from what he does every day, how often he trains, or who he texts. If it's important to him, he spends time doing it.
Does he have any other 'quirks,' Biyomon? He's got to do something in his free time. We'll crack this mystery, yet.
no subject
Okay. Right.
Trying is good. What's physically damaged then, Coronamon? Is he missing his tongue or... ? Can it be fixed? [ His brow furrows as he thinks. What a good suggestion! And as long as it didn't invade his partner's privacy, he saw no reason to not fill in with what details he had. ] Ah! You look at his priorities, and daily routine to gain a greater understanding of him? Wel-l...
Yeah. Lots. My Chosen really doesn't like staying in one place. He likes to go and stands in high places. He observes other people. It takes him ages to realize he's in a worse mood than normal because he's hungry or doesn't gotten enough sleep or something of the like.
[ Forte needed hobbies that didn't involve plotting to destroy everything around him and/or leaving this place immediately. ] He floats instead of walking. Like a Bakemon, just lower to the ground.
no subject
When the subject of Bumblebee's speech comes up, his eyes lower to his nails, as if he finds them more interesting than the topic. Though, if it's any indication, he lacks most of the usual sarcastic or prideful inflection.]
He's all there as far as I can see and feel. But if what his friends have said is true, he is damaged in a way that probably can't be repaired. You wouldn't know it from the look of him, but he's a soldier.
[Feline eyes flicker back up to the screen thoughtfully. High places. Watching other people. Coronamon's partner has done something similar when scouting the area, and Biyomon's partner hardly strikes him as the window-watching or daydreaming sort.] You don't suppose your partner is looking for someone do you?
And the floating... [Coronamon sits up, eyes flickering in realization.] Biyomon, you may be onto something.
no subject
You can inflict that kind of damage on somebody's data structure? [ So that lasts even after transferring to a different world? The look in Biyomon's round eyes is that of sympathy, roused by the sight of solemnity coming from a Digimon clearly more accustomed to jesting and boasting. A soldier for a partner, huh? ] Sounds like the kind of guy the Digital World could use right now. Saving the world means fighting for it too.
[ Pink feathers fluff up unconsciously, then press down against Biyomon's body again. He always paid close attention of all of his Chosen's movements but had little experience to link together what they meant outside of just using common sense to make deductions. ] He could be? That's possible. It's not aimless sight-seeing for sure.
[ ! ! !
Watching the screen avidly, he seems eager for the 'veteran' Digimon partner's insight. ]
Mm? What? I know it's not a power humans usually have, but...
no subject
[It's enough for Coronamon to move on with more ease than expected.] But that's the thing, isn't it? 'Not a power humans usually have.'
You think maybe the reason why he's so bad at being human is because he doesn't know how to be? Just like mine didn't.
[As thrilled as he is with his tentative connection, Biyomon knows his partner the best. He'd know more accurately if the theory held any water.]
no subject
That would explain it. That's it, Coronamon! [ He jabs a claw at the screen, still using a hushed tone of voice. ]
It's not that he can't, he doesn't know how!
[ He'd deeply suspected the non-humanity of his partner, but it hadn't occurred to him that Forte's status as a once-nonhuman could be linked to his incompetence at basic tasks and his refusal to be social. It wasn't like stuff such as hunger and the need for sleep were solely human things after all: Digimon got hungry and tired all the time too. Biyomon voices this thought; ] But then... What kind of being doesn't need to do any of that?
[ HMM. Wait. ]
... Going off what doesn't need to do any of that, I think we're limited to the area of machines, ghosts, and rocks? [ Huh, didn't Coronamon mention... ] If your Chosen was like mine before this, mind if I ask what he was?
no subject
My partner? Not a ghost or a rock.
But a machine? [He gives Biyomon an affirmative nod of his head. Hit the nail on the head.] My first hint he was a robot was him using the term 'humans' instead of people. 'Organic lifeforms,' even.
[He's not going to entertain the idea that Biyomon's perplexing enigma of a partner used to be a rock. If that were true... well. It would just be too weird. And as for the 'ghost' possibility, he makes an waving gesture with his paws.]
And you would think a ghost would be a little happier to be alive again.
no subject
Yours and mine being robots would definitively match those symptoms. [ The Digimon's tail feathers flickered up, then slowly sank back down. He enjoyed discussion and talking and excitement, purely for its own sake, but in this case, it was towards an end goal: fumbling towards a steadier ground and understanding with his partner. Progress towards that goal cheered him up. ]
'Organic lifeforms?' Not even going for the term 'humans?' Yeah, that sounds like something an Andromon or a machine would spit out.
Geez, come to think of it, it's a lot politer than all those names my partner calls everybody else.
[ He mused, then chuckled under his breath at Coronamon's comment about ghosts probably being happy to be breathing once more. He agreed there but Forte was so damn angry he figured if he was one, he'd still be pissed off at being returned to life anyway. ]
Chosen are weird. Who knows? Maybe some of them are ghosts who aren't happy about breathing again.
no subject
What kind of person would want to stay dead?
[Vanguard turns, eyes staring at something off screen. He's quiet, like he might've just heard a noise in the other room. Partner stirring in his sleep, maybe. Vanguard lowers his voice just in case.]
Why do you think your partner's so angry all the time?
no subject
[ And that's!! All Biyomon really to say on the matter, because that is actually a kind of morbid thing to talk about and since Forte wasn't a ghost, but a robot-something, it wasn't relevant to the conversation.
He pauses as Coronamon looks offscreen at some unseen noise for a moment. Slowly; ]
Another Digimon—a Lopmon—suggested it was because everybody blindly hated him for a stupid reason before coming here, like his partner had been.
[ Biyomon furrows his brows, looking very lost for a moment. Forte was hard for him to read, emotional connection or not. The ability to access his emotional state was helpful even if he didn't understand the feelings themselves. But finally, just as quietly: ] What I think... ? I think my partner's spent a very long time being nothing but angry at whatever made him mad and it's... Kinda like learning to drink something awful and keep it down, I suppose. If you drink just that and only that, eventually it stops tasting nasty and starts tasting sweet to you. Then it gets easier to stomach all the time until you don't think of it as rotten-tasting at all. See, I think he doesn't look at angry as something bad to be.
[ makes an clumsy attempt at a metaphor!! He gestures with a wing uselessly. ]
no subject
When you drink something so awful all the time, you get sick. You might even forget what something good for you tastes like. [To be so entrenched in a feeling or a state so long that it becomes a part of you.]
[Biyomon gets an unusual gesture from Coronamon,
one that might be in response to the kind words the feathery digimon had offered about Coronamon's partner a few minutes before. So long as Biyomon doesn't tell anyone he said something so sappy, all right?]Keep trying, Biyomon. Bitterness is an acquired taste. Maybe he just needs to get used to what's good again.
no subject
... Scars. Can you ever make those kind of things stop hurting?
[ Over in the corner, out of sight of the D-Terminal, the dark shadow that was his partner slightly shifted in his uneasy sleep and then went still again. In the darkness, his face was hidden under the shadow of his helm. Biyomon looked touched by Coronamon's kind gesture; then bullheaded determined sparks up in his eyes. He clenches his claws together. ]
I will! I'll try hard. No matter what.
Even if he doesn't want me by his side... I'll stay. He can't have started out like this. I'll remind him even he doesn't want to be! If he's sickened like this, I'll give him the chance for healing. That's what a partner is.
[ And just as earnestly; ] And you too, Coronamon. A soldier needs teammates to fight with, don't they? I bet you'll work well together.
no subject
I guess we'll find out, won't we?
[Coronamon raises an eyebrow, though it's less that he's being critical and more that he's
impressedintrigued by the sudden surge of confidence from the other digimon.]Hope you're ready for the long haul. I doubt your partner's going to make it easy on you.
[Coronamon straightens, chest puffing out with some pride. His ego makes a triumphant return at the praise.]
Of course. Bumblebee's lucky he got me for a partner instead of some half-witted, wishy washy digimon. No one's a better partner for him than me.
no subject
[ Biyomon lifts his beak up, valiantly determined to commit himself. He had their theories now. He had groundwork for understanding and somebody he could ask for advice if he needed it. That had to be a start?? ]
No, he's not. [ He predicted, agreeing if a little internally saddened by how simply he could make that agreement with only days' experience. He tilted his head to the side. ]
But if the going had to be easy, how would anything get done?
[ The pink bird Digimon fluffs up his feather in amusement and grins. Bouncing right back to his boasting, eh? ]
Got that right!
no subject
[Vanguard sets the D-Terminal down on the counter and leans back in his chair, arms up resting behind his head. He gives a pleased exhale.]
I'd say we got quite a bit done tonight.
no subject
Yeah, yeah. It's a pretty nice feeling.
no subject
They're pretty stubborn. Always trying to do things on their own, even if they're in over their head.
no subject
Maybe it's a requirement for being a Chosen. Like, they wouldn't get hired for the job unless they tick off a little box on the paperwork that says they have that particular tendency.
no subject
[Though after saying that he may purse his lips. Because well... those current 'requirements' did get him his current partner. He won't admit it out loud... but despite the trials and tribulations of taking care of Bee, he wouldn't trade him for anyone else.]
no subject
[ Biyomon chirps, puffing up the feathers on his chest. He looks away from the screen for a second and out the bedroom's closed window, towards the skies of the Digital World. Then he turned back to Coronamon. ]
As long as the Digital World gets put back to rights, and our partners and us get to kick butt together, we can grind through the tedious bits, can't we?
