Sixteenth Goal: Departure. [Video, backdated to the 19th, morning]

[Cam's got his backpack on. He's carrying something, under his arm, a pack of some kind. The implications are clear -- he's going somewhere. Lucette carries Salamon behind him, along with a tiny bag of her own.]

There's no easy way to say this... Me and Maya, and Neku and Shiki, we're going with Sakuyamon. We just... It's the right thing to do right now. Harley, if we could uh...still talk through video...? I can get, stuff, sent, through...shipping, they've got this pirate system. LH, man, I'm sorry, uh... Keep up your workouts, okay? It's...uhm. [He looks like this is not exactly how he planned on saying this.]

...Sometimes you need a change of view, you know?

[He bites his lip and then smiles.] So...yeah. See you guys around, I guess.

Good idea! A change of scenery might be JUST what you need.

I'm perfectly fine with us doing the telecommunication thing. Worse comes to worse if I have to I'll deliver your meds myself. It's not like you'll be impossible to find.

[Yiiiiiikes...] I've got a big supply at least? Hospitals, ya know. [An uneasy smile.]

I betcha we'll be back, like- come visit, it's not like we're gone, so... Yeah. I'll tell you how it looks, maybe it'll be a...required treatment?

This might be exactly the sort of adventure you need to keep moving forward.

[He lightly snorts, the kind that's more like a puff of air than anything else.]

[He's sad, but he's not going to stop anyone from making these decisions. He will miss both Cam and Neku that's for sure.]

You'll have to tell us how things there are.

What, 'course I will. Just 'cause we're gonna be in different places doesn't mean we can't talk all the time. It'd get kinda weird otherwise.

[Cam's smile grows, in an attempt to mimic confidence.]

And I would appreciate that even more. As I told Neku, it felt a little soon to be leaving when we had only just arrived here...but who knows what the future might hold. I would like to hear more about Sakuyamon's offered place to stay before agreeing completely.

Yeah, we just sorta...things happened, a lot of things, and a place like that sounds kind of...nice right now.

[A few moments pass, before he can set it up right.]

You don't think I'm running away, right? I don't... I wanna stop that, but, I... [He sighs.]

[Kaldur blinks in surprise at the question. Why would Cam ask that? Kaldur considers it seriously for a moment, then shakes his head.]

I do not, Cam. I believe that you are doing what you think best for yourself right now. Not only that, but traveling with Sakuyamon could be advantageous to us all. You are very brave to go with her when very few others that I know of are going and none of us have been to this island before. This is not running away Cam.

[With a slight frown, Cam glances away.]

I didn't mean to be brave or anything like that. [His Crest of Courage notably dangles around his neck.] ...Thanks. Guess I just had to hear it from someone.

[Kaldur offers him a smile.]

One rarely intends to perform acts of bravery, Cam. But I hope I have at least reassured you in this. No one thinks you are running away.

Hope so...

[A pause.]

You'll be safe there too, right? And keep in touch?

[He doesn't want anyone else to disappear.]

Koushirou spent a great deal of time setting this place up for us in case of an emergency like this. I like to think that means that we will be safe...or as safe as one can be in the digital world.

I promise to keep in touch Cam.

[He appears incredibly relieved. And a bit embarrassed.]

[Sorry Cam. Have a small boy looking wide-eyed at you.]

...Shiki's going?

I'm sorry. You could come with me?

[He actually looks like he's about to say yes...but he stops.]

What about everyone else? Chika, and Kit, and Hisame, and them? They're not going...I don't think...

[Duo doesn't look at Shiki anymore. She's not dying, but she is still leaving. Why does everyone have to leave?]

I'd bring everyone with me if I could.

...You can't stay?

[It's a selfish thought. He can't help it. He wants everyone to stay in one place, but...it won't happen. And that thought just hurts. And that hurt is quick to turn to anger.]

F-Fine! Leave! Just go already!

[And with that, he hangs up. He'll likely regret this later, but for now, he's too upset to even talk.]

[He...kinda saw all that, but...he's sending through a message to Duo anyway, just. To try.]

Hey... I know it's not gonna be forever. She'll, uhm, come on back eventually, I'm sure.

Why should she come back? She apparently doesn't want to be here anyway.

[You'll have to excuse him, Cam. He's 8 and hurt and just taking his anger out in all the wrong places...]

[Oh no. :(]

No, it's not that! [He tries speaking softly.] She's just scared, all of us who're going are. We need to go somewhere else, so we can stop being scared.

She didn't have to be scared here! There's nothing scary here!

[He bites down on his lower lip, because he knows he's just going to start crying soon...even if he won't admit it.]

It's not really the place all the time...

...and it's nothing you did.

Then why did she leave...?

[The voice is small, actually insecure.]

...Sometimes you just need to...go.

It's not easy.

[Duo goes quiet for a long time before he mumbles.]

Everyone leaves...

[What does he say? How does he respond?]

...She can still talk to you. She's not going to just leave forever. ...I promise.

...She probably wouldn't want to now.

[Because he was angry and mean to her.]

[How strange that he's been on the other side of a similar conversation, so many many months ago.]

You know, never know that unless...you try talking to her.

[He's got an encouraging smile on his face when his video connects.]

Heh-hey, that's a great idea; half the fun of traveling can be getting to see someplace new.

[The other half is usually the experience, and honestly this sounds like it'll be quite the journey.]

Have a safe trip and hey! Keep in touch if you want, alright? Chris and I might pay a visit over there sometime.

[Probably not stay over there, but they definitely at least want to visit Sakuyamon's place. And being able to see old friends again is even better.]

[Martin's positive attitude is infectious.] Yeah, exactly! Most of the travel'll be on a ship, so...not really a lot to see except the ocean. But, it'll be nice, big new place, lotta Digimon, probably things to do. It'll feel less like...waiting around for something to happen.

[He grins and gives an enthusiastic nod.]

It sounds awesome! H'that's kinda why me and Chris are gonna be exploring around this continent for a bit. It'll be fun, and it never hurts to learn as much as you can about a new place.

Hah'and how can you not have an amazing adventure in a place called "The Forest of the Gods"?

[He chuckles a little at that.]

And h'you never know; Even the trip over there could be exciting! Oceans have tons of fascinating life in them, and I'm sure the ones here do too.

[He kinda wants to go back to the islands they passed and explore the area and water around them too for just that reason.]

[An animal enthusiast-- that's what he knows Martin as, and his brother as well, so Cam's not at all surprised that they're still exploring. He listens with an amused expression, if the teachers in his old school were as excited about all this stuff as the Kratts, he might've had a lot easier time on tests.

...or maybe not! Probably not! Tests are the devil.]

Hey, long as the fascinating life doesn't try to eat me, I'm sure I'll like it fine. ...I've never actually been on a boat before. [A surprised and amused expression. Huh.]

[Tests are terrible. There would be no tests allowed in Creature Adventuring 101.

That first comment makes him laugh though.]

H'you'll be fine then.

[If the majority of fascinating life here is anything like the fascinating life back home all it takes is a little mutual respect to steer clear of trouble like that.]

Oho man, boats are great! You'll love it!

[He does look up thoughtfully though a moment later.]

Oh hey, but if you can get your hands on some of it, take some kind of ginger with you though, just in case.

[A dry, forced laugh comes from Cam's mouth; he's not as confident, Martin, sorry.

But he smiles a bit, in confusion.]

Ginger? How come?

Ginger's really great for seasickness.

[He says that incredibly casually, although at least he seems to notice it a moment later.]

H'not that I think you'll get seasick, it just helps to be prepared.

[He grins a little sheepishly.]

And it's good to have in case your partners or anyone else on board doesn't agree with boat travel.

[After all, there's nothing to say digimon can't get a little seasick either. ...Even on a digital sea.]

[Oh, well!] That's...real smart. Thanks, I'll ask some of the staff here, they've gotta have some. I betcha it'll come in handy for one of us.

Hah, well, hopefully you won't have to use it at all, h'but just in case.

[He looks up a moment in thought and then smiles, laughing a little.]

Yeah, see if they don't have some candied ginger especially. That stuff tastes a lot better than just the plain old ginger pills.

[He knows how they taste from experience. ...Not necessarily from seasickness, but because he's eaten candied ginger purely because it was candied.]

Candied. Got it. [He's walking-and-talking now, because well. They're gonna have to leave soon.]

Probably should've learned more about this before agreeing to go. [Oops!]

[He laughs a little, shaking his head.]

Naaaah, h'you'll be fine. Spontaneous adventures are the best kind of adventures!

[He smiles cheerily.]

You'll all have a great time over there, I'm sure of it.

[It certainly had sounded like an amazing place to visit, never mind living there.]

[His smile's a little more shaky now...or at least a little less certain. A little worried.]

Sure hope so. A lot's happened...not great, lately.
