005 - Fifth Flight [Action]
[It took a bit of time, but after the physical and mental stress the Field put on Hiccup and his aquatic partner, things for them finally seem to be leveling out somewhat. The job the viking managed to get at the Ice Cream Shoppe has been...well as smooth as a job like that can go. (especially when he's spending part of his time keeping an eye on Arcee and the customers) Ever since Gomamon's last video, the two haven't really talked about their experiences as they went to rescue Taichi, but a difference can be clearly seen between them. Their bond definitely isn't a typical one, but it's strengthening.
Hiccup at least has recovered almost fully from the incident, save for a still healing burn that's still quite visible along the side of his face. It doesn't appear to be causing him much discomfort anymore. One thing is for certain: Hiccup has found himself restless in this city. Compared to Berk, the place is so unfamiliar that even the time he's spent here hasn't completely gotten him used to the advances in technology and the like. Either way, something feels....missing.
With a low grunt, Hiccup rolls his shoulders and tugs on the handle of what appears to be a wooden wagon, fairly crude in its make but artistically crafted, something he must have built himself sometime. The wheels squeak audibly as he pulls it along the sidewalk, and upon further inspection it can be seen that the wagon is lined with a rubber tarp of some sort. There's a soft splashing coming from the inside of the tarp...]

Ahahaa! Now this is what I call a chariot! Ya shoulda' built me this weeks ago Hic, this is great! The ONLY way to travel.
[Gomamon snickers, rolling over onto his back before dunking his head beneath surface of the water-filled wagon, obviously enjoying himself as he rolls around and around in the cool little pool the area forms. Hiccup just rolls his eyes a little, careful to walk slow so all of the water doesn't slosh out of the wagon.]
Well I'm glad you like it, but don't get used to it alright? It's just kindof hot today, and I wanted an excuse to finally build something.
[The seal Digimon pops back up and shakes his head, neatly spraying Hiccup with water before plopping his fins on the edge of the wagon.]
Aww, but ain't this nicer than me just ridin' on your head all the time?...
....Oh speakin' of which! Are ya ever gonna give me a nickname kid? I mean geeze everyone else is doin' it.
Gomamon that has nothing to do with what you were just talking about. ...And maybe? I'm getting used to just calling you Gomamon-
No no, that's lame! Ya gotta think'a somethin' better than that! Somethin' cool. Ya aren't really just gonna call me Gomamon forever, right?
....Weeeell-
Aw come OOON, Hiccup!!

[Action ya know]
[Who's out today? Cam is. Out and about, since it's good for him, or something. He's not in a bad mood today, but it took some doing to get out of bed, and those are the days that seem to sour his mood.
So what better than to get out, so Lucette had said. She's mostly leading him, looking for something to do. It's then that she picks up one of her buzzwords, and that's nickname. She's so fascinated by them, so every time she hears it...]
A nickname? You're thinking of a nickname? What are you thinking of?
[At the same time, Cam turns his head, he does recognize that voice...] Lucette, don't just interrupt-- oh no.
Campbell? What is it?
[It's Gomamon. :|]
[Action]
Well uh...
[He doesn't really finish his sentence though once he spots Lucette and Cam, and his strange pause causes Hiccup to stop walking and turn around. Oh Dear Odin.
Quickly, Hiccup drops the wagon handle and darts past the wagon in front of Gomamon, shooting the pair a weak grin. Maybe he can get a few words in before Gomamon ruins everything.]
H-hey...
[..Well that's...awkward. He trails off a bit, unsure of what to really...say, so he just hopes Cam's exuberant partner will pick up the conversation somehow.]
[Action]
[Luckily, unlike Cam, Lucette doesn't recognize Gomamon. She hadn't heard his comment, so she just looks confused.] Hello. I don't believe we've met, I'm Lucette, and this is Campbell. We're out for a walk and I couldn't help but hear, what about nicknames? I like them a lot, a whole lot, I could help! I could! Oh, Campbell, why're you looking like that, is something wrong? ...More wrong? [She adds the last bit in an undertone, but it probably still carries.
Jeez, Cam just looks at Hiccup, and Gomamon. He doesn't really have anything against the Chosen. And it's not like he's especially angry at Gomamon, just...
Short, simple:] We've met.
[Action]
Look I uh.....I'm not gonna beat around the bush....I'm sorry about...what happened, you know. Me and Gomamon kinda...had a bit of a rough time there for a while, but we've straightened out a lot, I promise.
[There's a pause in which Hiccup reaches back and raps his knuckles against the wagon to get Gomamon's attention. He jumps a little and reappears with his fins on the edge of the wagon again, struggling not to sigh.]
....Uhm. Yeah. ....What Hic said.
[Action]
A tiny grumbling voice wonders why he has to be in a Mood today, because the little amphibian is probably going to think he's an irritable psycho again. Okay, so Gomamon never said that. But it sure felt like it, something wrong with him, he's wrong, he--
Blinks. The voice away.] ...I was going through a thing too, it's...fine. Don't worry about it.
...Oh. Was this before--?
[Quick, short:] Yes. [More hurried.] Don't...worry, it's fine.
[Action]
Good, that's good to hear. ...After um...we went to go save Taichi, things changed a bit.
[And by a bit he means a TON. Even now it's probably noticable that Gomamon's acting out less, if only slightly, and the two seem to be getting along better.
He absently reaches up to run his fingertips over the burn that's fading into a scar on his face, glancing away from Cam briefly before meeting his gaze once more.]
Maybe we can just....start over now? I mean...you and your partner seem nice. I'd still like to be friends, if...if we can.
[Action]
Yeah, uh...yeah, okay. We can. [He's wondering, with a start, what could've happened if he or Iori had wandered into the Dark Field they found. Would he have been able to get out? To pull her out?] You're...Hiccup, right?
[A hand on his shoulder; he knows it's Lucette. She's starting to pick up, just when he has trouble concentrating or picking words. He's glad for that at least.] Friends would be wonderful.
[Action]
You got it. And you're...Cam.
[He's pretty good with remembering names, and he's almost certain he's connected that name with this boy's face before. Then he looks up at Lucette with a half-smile. If he thought he and Gomamon were polar-opposites, then Cam and Lucette look to be a really well paired match.]
It's nice to meet you both.
[During this whole conversation Gomamon just stays silent, his tail slowly swaying back and forth across the surface of the pool.]
[Action]
And damn, much as he tries, Cam can rarely hold a grudge.
So he nods to Hiccup but abruptly and quickly approaches Gomamon and kneels beside the pool. Lucette's surprised, but she remains floating where she had been.] Look, I-- it's fine. I said, I was going through something. And I...overreacted. So don't worry. Okay?
[As an afterthought, he pats Gomamon's head, almost awkwardly; he's never had any pets before, and Lucette's more human than the other Digimon.]
[Action]
Ahhh....right kid. I...I didn't really mean t'upset ya with what I said, before. So...I'm sorry too.
[Ok now THAT is a surprise. Hiccup looks from Lucette to Cam to Gomamon and back before letting his gaze settle on his partner. The look on his face isn't teasing, for once. Even he can tell when someone's feeling uneasy, but normally Hiccup pegged him as being so dense about people's feelings sometimes that he just didn't care to stop and think if he was hurting someone.
But for once, it looks like he is.
With a sudden little smile, Gomamon flicks one of his claws over the surface of the water just hard enough to splash a little water in Cam's face.]
Now quit with th'long face Cam! Unless it's th'heat gettin' to ya, in which I say I don't blame ya. I'd offer ya a spot in my wagon here, but it's a little small for that..
[Action]
Yeah, gimme a nice cool day anytime.
[Next to Hiccup, Lucette floats, smiling herself. Looks like her plan to get him out and about and happier has worked, though not in the way she'd thought.] My partner and your partner, oh dear, oh dear, I hope we aren't abandoned.
[Lucette says this in a false whisper, arms crossed across her chest.]
[Action]
Anybody else who had Gomamon more than a few hours would be hurrying to give him back.
[And Hiccup has to dodge a splash of water that cascades over the edge of the wagon as Gomamon's tail slaps the surface of the water.]
Pssh, as if! People LOVE me. Now yer gonna hafta fill up my wagon again, so ya better get on that.
[Action]
[Cam slides away from the water as well, observing in amusement.]
Isn't that sort of your fault, though? You're splashing it around. [Lucette's not saying this maliciously; she's genuinely interested, as her bemused face says.
As she does, Cam straightens up, watching with a very tiny smile. He'll let her carry the conversation, she's better at it than he is anyway.]
[Action]
Maaaybe....but Hic's still gonna refill it for me no matter how much water I splash out, right?
...Yeah yeah, I will.
[Action]
What a helpful partner! Our partners are supposed to be our best friends, after all, so-- [Cam knows what's coming now, and he braces himself for it, it's the side-hug cuddle combo.] --we've gotta get along with them! And being helpful's the first step!
[Another strong cuddle and Cam chuckles; if he hugs her back, his arms will go around her tiny body completely with room to spare, but he does lean his head a bit towards hers.]
[Action]
Yeah, you're right. Just need to keep working together as long as we're stuck here.
Yeah, an'I figure that's gonna be a LOONG time.
[Action]
[But he...quietly nods.]
We gotta fix things here...or there'll be problems back home.
[Lucette's hug loosens, but she still smiles; yeah, she knows. She knows he wants to go back, one day.]
[Action]
Yeah, there's really no use worrying about it..
[Gomamon nods, tapping his claws on the edge of the wagon.]
Well it ain't all that bad. I mean, you two have us! So you're not totally by yourselves.
[Action]
Don't worry, Campbell! We'll find a way to get you home, when everything's all said and done. [He's not at all comfortable with talking about why he's worried about getting home. Lucette is a life-saver.]
[Action]
[He's been thinking about everyone back home a lot lately. Dad, Astrid...Toothless especially. He can't imagine how things have been going back on the island. ...Then again, didn't someone say time worked differently here? Either way, he's feeling just as homesick as anyone else.]
[Action]
[Action]
[No worries Cam, Hiccup is like...the king of awkward smiles.]
And we'll keep learning new things the longer we're stuck here.
[Action]
Like...different worlds. [A small laugh.] Never could've imagined that, outside of sci-fi.
[Action]
P-...pretty much, yeah. Then again, coming from an island littered with dragons, you'd think I'd be used to it by now..
[Action]
Dragons.
That's it, everyone else lives in fantasy movies, I lost the world lottery.
[Action]
[Action]
[Action]
[Action] I THOUGHT I FUCKING TAGGED THIS...
[Action] It's ok!!
