[video] First Spell

[Henry's on the screen with Gaomon next to him. Gaomon seems fairly relaxed at the moment, while Henry is smiling.]

Hey there, everybody! I'm living in F1 006, who else is?

Also, while I'm here, who else isn't used to this kind of technology? Gaomon had to explain a lot of it. Oh, and did everybody lose their powers here? It's starting to sound like it.

[That catches a bit of curiosity, if not enough to dig on - how many people here have had unusual powers that it can "start to sound like it"?]

I didn't have any "powers" - hardly anyone does where I'm from, aside from the royal family, and probably a few others hiding out there.

But I know I still have yet to wrap my mind around the common technology here, that's for sure... When you're fumbling behind using a device that your starry-eyed little baby dragon friend can jump to help you with, you know that your whole world's at least a good century or so behind.

[Ohh, has it ever been years since Walter's been prompted to talk about the Heroes.]

Huh - what kind didn't they have?

For starters, they had an advantage as warriors. Unusual durability, and strength. The Queen - when she was still the "Princess" - the last time the two of us sparred, she broke my sword clean through with one good flourish. [He chuckles there, though it's quickly washed out with a bit of wistfulness on the reflection turning into their real last swordfight.

He turns a throat-clearing into continuing neatly as he can.]
Most noticeable is that people like them were the only ones in my world who could do real magic. They could shoot lightning and fireballs and flurries of little burning swords out of their hands, and more, all out of their Will.

We called them Heroes. There was an entire guild of them in the old days, long before the first Hero-Queen had the throne. They'd take on quests. Ousting bandits from the land near defenseless villages, slaying beasts, finding lost children, and stuff like that. They took less-than-heroic jobs, too, though. They say the Guild was brought down when the Heroes started acting like mercenaries.

F1 006? That would be me. Espio.

And I lost my powers. My species changed, too, but I'm starting to get used to that - as long as I consider that this form is pretty much an avatar I can deal. Thankfully, I'm used to this kind of tech.

[He's trying to figure out if "Gaomon" is a species or a name, now. He had kind of assumed it was a name... after checking with Gaomon himself, however...]

My partner is also a Gaomon.

Yeah, it's not something I make a habit of...

[Pauses to roll his eyes at the other Gaomon, even if he can't be seen.]

Ooh, the same kind of digimonster, how exciting...

Espio, please. I've had more than enough of your sarcasm already, and I have known you only a matter of hours.

Well, it's not like sharing quarters with the same species was ever a big deal where I'm from! I shared my home with three different species, and a sentient computer.

Even so, there's no reason to-

Be quiet.

[Siiiigh.]

There's no reason to be particularly nice, either. Nobody said "good" had to be "nice."

Nevertheless, when dealing with strangers, it is best to be polite. It is difficult to maintain good relations when -

It's best to be myself. I'll be nice and polite when I feel like it.

I do apologise for my partner. He isn't good at listening.

I'm perfectly good at listening. I'm just not particularly inclined to do what you say. Anyway...

The computer is the Omni-Viewer, but he'd probably be offended that I called him that. He is a computer, just one that can actually think for himself. He also doubles up as an overpowered time and dimensional travel device. He'd probably even be able to find his way in here, if he had any reason to.

He's a machine. He can travel to the past. He can travel to the future. He can travel to other planets. He can travel to other realities. He can take people with him.

He also has his own mind, so even though he's a machine he's a person as well.

[Yes, he's speaking slow and addressing Henry as though he's an idiot. Have fun living with him.]
