#01- Arrival [Video, Action in Hospitown]

[The D-Terminal is showing a new face today, and it doesn't look happy. This little Impmon has been lost for a while now.]

Okay, I think I got this thing working. So what's the deal here? One minute we saved the Digital World, the next minute it's all gone to heck and there's a new big bad Digimon destroying everything? What's the deal here? I can't find my friends! I can't even find my partners!

How long was I out for, anyway!?

[He inhales. Sighs. You're gonna be nice, Impmon. You're gonna be friendly and polite. Even though you're mad. You're gonna be nice.

When he talks again, his voice sounds significantly more calm, though still distinctly unhappy.]

Okay, sorry. Sometimes I lose my head. Uh, Guilmon, Renamon, Ai, Mako... heck, I'd even settle for seeing the cream-puff again at this point. If you're out there, let me know.

[His voice immediately takes a hard edge to it again.]

Not that I'm afraid or anything! I just don't want any of you tiny-brained numbskulls gettin' into trouble while I'm not around to watch your back!

[The message ends. Impmon will be exploring Hospitown trying to find a familiar face, but he won't object to meeting a new friend who's willing to help him out!

Well. He may object. But he probably won't actually mind.]

Flat | Top-Level Comments Only

[What a rowdy little organic. Even his digimon isn't nearly as outspoken. Bee's actually smiling on the other side of the D-terminal.]

Whoa there, little guy.

Slow down for an astrosecond and I may just be able to help you.

[Impmon spends a really, really long time puzzling and poring over the writing, making increasingly frustrated growls and grumbles of annoyance. Finally, he just flips on the video]

"You jerk, I can't even read!"

[Primus. This is going to get complicated. One side of the conversation can't speak, and the other can't read. He feels obligated to tell Impmon of Guilmon's presence here, but he has to figure out how to do this first. Too bad Bumblebee's partner takes control of the conversation. Vanguard cooly replies by video.]

What kind of a lazy digimon can't read?

[Bee reacts lightning fast, reaching forward and clamping a hand over his digimon's mouth to hush him. Too bad the damage is already done.]

"I got better things to do with my time, awright! What kinda rude digimon can't mind his manners, huh?"

[This is his idea of being nice.

He is, evidently, new to the concept.]

[With a sigh, Bumblebee moves off screen to grab a pen and paper. He doesn't want the argument to escalate, but he needs to tell Impmon what he knows before the two digimon get sick of each other and cut the connection. Hang on, Impmon. He'll be back.

Meanwhile, if Impmon looks closely at Vanguard, the fur on the digimon's chest will puff up slightly at the insult, even if he tries to keep his calm composure.]

The kind of 'rude' digimon who can do this.

[The Coronamon briefly interrupts the video to send him another text.]

I know something you don't know.

"Why you little- I oughta-"

[He clamps his mouth closed and fumes. He can be nice. He isn't going to threaten the other digimon when they've only just met.]

[Oh? Well that was unexpected. Vanguard figured that would have set many other Impmons off, but this one in particular is showing some actual restraint.]

Oh come now, don't hold back. You should speak your mind.

[Of course, that's when Bumblebee returns with a hastily drawn picture of what looks to be a T-rex with strange looking ears and markings on its snout. Bee is no artist, but it's actually a picture of Guilmon. He can only hope it's recognizable enough to halt the argument. Or Vanguard might finally get the hint and explain, but he's far too distracted at the moment.]

[Impmon manages to stick to gnashing his teeth. And imagined lighting the other digimon on fire. It wasn't quite as satisfying as actually doing it would be, but hey, he wasn't that sort of digimon anymore, right?

He ignores the goading until Bumblebee returns, then looks at the picture he's shown.]

"What the... is that some kinda dinosaur? Almost looks like pineapple-head."

[Beat.]

"... Wait. Is it? Is that Guilmon? You know Guilmon?"

[Bumblebee nods, circles the picture before he taps it affirmatively with his pencil. Ding ding. Right answer.]

Oh him? One that talks in third person?

Yeah we talked to him the other day, as a matter of fact.

"That's great! Is he okay? How's he been doing? Have you seen anybody else? What's-"

[Oh, right. Going too fast.]

"Ehehe. Sorry."

[Bee blinks at the barrage of questions, and Vanguard just raises an eyebrow. The digimon's lips are quirked in an amused smile.]

Don't hurt yourself now.

[Bee's leaning over by now, scribbling words onto the paper. Vanguard finally gets the hint and reads it off when he's finished.]

"Don't worry. He's here. He's fine. Juri here too, if you know her. Can show you how to check if other friends are here."

"Juri's here?"

[Oh boy. He's not sure if he's glad or not.]

"Alright, uh, sure. Show me how to look for people."

[After a minute, something else seems to occur to him, and he adds,]

"... please?"

[Vanguard's smile seems to grow a little at the 'please' and Bee gives him a bit of a side glance, urging him to be nice. Vanguard rolls his eyes. fine.]

I've got this, Bee. See this D-Terminal you're using to communicate? It's also got a directory full of every Chosen who's currently here.

[Bumblebee stops, eyes widening a little. His hand raises apprehensively as a problem occurs to him. Uh oh. Coronamon leans over and reads the latest.]

"Actually you may run into a problem."

[He peers at the device. A directory, huh? Looked like he had a lot to learn about this little thing.

But no, of course it couldn't be that simple, could it?]

"Problem? What kinda problem?"

"It's a list of names."

[One that would require being able to read, that is. Bee gives him an apologetic look.]

[... Oh, for- He didn't even think of that.]

"Gah! That's just not friggin' fair! Couldn't it have pictures or talk out loud or something?"

Oh don't pout. Look on the bright side. Now that you're here, you're on the directory too. Next time they look on the list, guess who's name they'll see?

[Bumblebee joins in on the encouragement.] "They may end up seeing this and contacting you first. What's your name?"

"I'm Impmon. And I never got your names either"

[It's good that people can find him that way. Then if they didn't want him around they could just not bother finding him.

Maybe that was better.]

I'm Vanguard, and this is my partner Bumblebee.

[Bee gives him a small wave in greeting]

"I take it you're a good friend of Guilmon, if you're so concerned about him."

"Good friends? Puh-lease. I just know that big goofy pineapple-head will get himself into trouble if somebody more sensible- that'd be me- doesn't keep an eye on him."

[And also this place is really freaking him out and a familiar face would be nice right now, but that's not relevant. Not relevant at all.]

[Bee doesn't see any harm in indulging in the other's ego.] "They're lucky to have you."

[Coronamon, on the other hand, just rests his chin on his hand.] Now just how did you two even end up together. You're as different as night and day.

"Ahhh, that's a long and boring story. You probably don't wanna hear it."

[Also Impmon was ashamed of most of it, but that's beside the point.]

"But suffice it to say, me and the pineapple-head are best buds these days."

Sure I do. I'll bet its way more interesting than you let on.

[Coronamon rests his hand on his chin thoughtfully.]

What do you think Bee? Maybe they met at a bar? Maybe a birthday party.

Or in a battle to the death!

"For your information, we saved the world together once!"

[Yep. No touchy subjects here. Not at all.]

"Besides, I barely come up to a grown-up's kneecaps, what bar would let me in?"

[To be honest, Coronamon just can't help himself. He's enjoying the back and forth, poking and prodding to see what kind of reactions he can get.]

I bet you could find a way. Impmon can be pretty devious, and you look like the sneaky type.

And saving your world? Impressive. Should I ask you for tips on saving this one?
