[Video] First Shot

[At first, there would be nothing but a thin veil of static on the screen accompanied by the sounds of someone muttering and pressing buttons; though eventually a very tired, confused face would appear as it gave the screen an appraising once over before the man decided to actually try speaking]

Uhh...hey, is this thing on? Helloooooo? Anyone out there that can hear me?

Umm...Mister?

One sec Raine...just tryin to figure this thing out real quick.

[The man gave the screen a few taps with his finger as if he were inspecting a microphone, even going so far as to clear his throat as one might do before making an important speech before smiling kindheartedly and beginning to speak in earnest]

If I might have your attention for a few minutes, I'd like to send a message out. My name is Laguna Loire and my vice assistant Raine here has informed me that I can talk to other people in this..."Terminal" through this doodlevice here!

Uh...its...called a Digivice sir...

Right, Digivice...Anywho, I'd like to say I have everything under control here but...I might need just a tiny bit of help navigating this place, honestly I don't have a clue! So...any assistance would be appreciated!

[With that, Laguna leaned forward and began to whisper into the Digivice as if he were delivering a secret message to someone]

Also...Kiros? Ward? If you're there, I need backup! I repeat, backup is definitely needed!

[This was just a normal night for Squall. He couldn't sleep so he decided to turn his attention to his D-terminal, He figured no one he knew would be up at this time but he decided to scroll on through regardless. What he found was something he had no intention of finding. ]

( Laguna...)

[ He was the man from his dreams. There is no doubt about it in his mind. Same hair, same carefree attitude. Same everything. What was he doing here? He wasn't stuck in another one of those dreams, was he? That couldn't be it, because powers don't work in this world. He frowned a bit and debated if he should ignore his cries for help, or speak up. He sighed and shifted a little. ]

Navigational advice would be lost on you.

[That voice...Laguna had been discussing some things with Raine when he heard it drift through the speakers on his Digital Terminal and just the sound of it gave him a familiar chill down his spine. So many times before he had heard that voice in the back of his head...making snide remarks or asking questions, there was no doubt in his mind at all; there was just no way he could mistake this feeling.

His lip curled up into a small smile as he looked back down at his D-T; the voice was even talking as it normally did, though now it was much easier to hear than it had ever been]

So...the Faeries are here too, huh? Go figure...

Faerie? Is that a kind of Digimon?

No...just an old friend of mine is all.

[ Squall glared down at his own D-terminal. Was that man ignoring him? Tch. No, he wasn't the type to do that. He was probably lost in his own head. Idiot. He sighed again and resisted the urge to smack his own forehead. Maybe he should try again? This was a lot of effort for one person.]

Sorry to break it to you, but I'm not a faerie.

[Laguna laughed at that, it sounded like something his Faerie would say; closer up it sounded even more familiar than that, but without a picture he was having trouble making out just who it could possibly be]

Fair enough, fair enough. Make all the jabs you want, but if you know how to get to the town that note mentioned; I'd be thankful for the info.

(He can't be serious, can he? Even if I told him the directions he'd end up going the exact opposite way. He'd end up in desert land or something. )

Your Digimon would be more helpful to tell than you would be.

Um...I tried sir but...I'm not having much luck with my surroundings right now...

[Laguna leaned over to get Salamon a few pats on the head, making the Digimon smile the same way Laguna was]

Hey now, no worries! I'm sure our friend here will help us, he seems like a stand up kinda guy. The city can't be TOO far away from her, right? They usually build important places close to civilization for convenience purposes after all.

Assuming things about people you don't even know isn't really that smart of an idea.

So you say, but I don't really have much a choice right now. You're the only one who answered so...you're the only one I can rely on. Its either that or I keep going this way and hope I hit somewhere; honestly I'd prefer to have at least a little bit of an idea, you know?

Go in the opposite direction you're currently going in. I'm sure it's a safe bet civilization is that way.

...You sound a whole lot like this one person I know, you know that? Right down to the cutting jabs; I'm sure you and Squall would get along just fine.

[Laguna sighed and let his D-T hang in his hand for a few seconds. Today had been a very long day and right out of the gate he was getting ribbed; he never got a break, did he?]

[ The voice seemed to go completely silent when Laguna said his name. He stared down at this video feed for a good long minute. How did he know his name? Why did he sound like he knew him so well? None of this was making sense. Who was this guy really? ]

How.... do you know my name?

[Just then it clicked...without a face and with everything he'd had to deal with in the past few days, Laguna had been too mentally drained to make the connection. Now that he had some confirmation though, his face lit up like the summer sun in the middle of july]

Squall? Squall Leonhart is that you? Its me, Laguna! You know...the president of Esthar? Don't tell me you forgot all about the past couple of days already!

[ This man was bouncing all over the place with his thoughts. Squall frowned and held the D-terminal away for a moment, waiting to see if the other man would calm down a little. He shifted silently and just stares as if trying to find his words. ]

I don't know about you, Sir but what I did in the past couple days consisted of waking up, working, going back to my room and a midnight stroll. It didn't involve seeing you in Esthar. I've never even been.

Ah...

[Well...he was pretty sure he was talking to the Squall Leonhart he remembered, the one who he had helped get into Lunatic Pandora and who had taken down Ultimecia with his friends; but something wasn't right.]

Did...I miss something? Vice assistant, do you have any ideas?

Well...I'm not sure...maybe he's from a different point in time?

Point...in time? Yeesh...just what is going on here? Its like this place was made to make everything more complicated than it needs to be...

[ Seifer mentioned a similar concept. Squall frowns a little as he stares down at the D-T.So somehow he's been thrown into the past and brought here or something? That seems to be the way Seifer and Laguna keep reacting. ]

I guess if you want to put it in words yeah. Different point in time.

[ Someone sounds none to happy. ]

So I actually meet you?

[Hmm...this is a tough thing to consider. Should he tell Squall and risk something about the future being changed? Or should he keep quiet and just let him continue to think he was just some crazy old guy? Eventually he decided that he'd let Squall choose on this one; if he didn't want to hear it, he shouldn't force it on him.]

You do more than that, but if you don't want any spoilers I'll hold my tongue on all that.

Fair enough, fair enough. Yes, you do meet me, you meet a whole lot of people actually; then you and your friends end up putting down a dangerous sorceress named Ultimecia and ultimate save all our hides in the process. So...you can say I owe you one on that...or a lot of ones as the case is.

[ He goes silent again. This was a lot of information to take in for him. He only really realized who Ultimecia was when Seifer told him from the time frame he was from. The Sorceress who controlled his mind and used him as some kind of lacky... And now this... Laguna is telling him he managed to kill her? Was it even possible to slay a sorceress fully? ]

I see...

[Laguna sighed and rubbed the back of his head...he could only imagine how hard Squall's brain was working to try and piece all this information together.]

Sorry...for having to drop the bomb on you like that, but hey! At least its good news rather than bad news, right?

This guy, however eccentric may have come off, is the real deal. In truth, it's hard for him to come up with something to say. Coming up with an appropriate method for expressing his enjoyment of The Sorceress' Knight s beyond him at the moment, so in the end all he can offer is: ]

[Laguna took a second to look around to take in his surroundings and thankfully in his walking he hadn't strayed too far away from the Terminal entrance as he could still see it]

Well, no.... You don't have to stand there. You've got a room assignment by now, right? You can find it, meet your roommates and contemplate over the fact you'll probably be stuck here for a couple of months minimum.

Yeah...I'm just having a little newbie difficulty finding my way around this place. I guess I'll eventually stumble across my place if I keep walking, right?

...You'll find something, but I can't exactly guarantee it'll be friendly. If you go the wrong way and stray too far from the city, you might come across trouble. Your cat should be able to help you out a little, though. Maybe you'd have had better luck with a dog, since they oughta have a better sense of direction.

Hey now, Raine's doin a fine job as my Vice Assistant! Besides, I got old faithful here with me, so even if we run into a big baddy we'll be just fine!

[Much like a hero, he is kind, compassionate, and nearly unshakable in the face of certain danger. He might be a bit clumsy, but there is a reason you took to his character so well Seifer]

"Old faithful" ain't gonna cut it against the bigger ones out there. You might knock off a couple'a small fry, though, so there's that. Has your "Vice Assistant" actually battled yet?

[Well now, this was something distinctly adorable and helpful to boot! Laguna smiled softly at the feed on his D-T and gave the Digimon a small nod in affirmation of his offer]

Right now we're just trying to get to the town that message mentioned. If you know where that is, it'd be great to know.

Uh, Terminal Tokyo? The city? It should be all around you, once you get out of the Main Terminal..

Vice Assistant? [There's a ~~little~~ girl blinking at the screen, her face very much resembling her thought process. Then she turns to her Penguinmon, more interested in a conversation with the penguin.] Can Digimon have jobs?

[Well! There's something he's never heard before. How different is that from "partner"? Hrm...]

What do vice assistants do? Guilmon hasn't thought of other Digimon as assistants before...
