[The feed cuts on, showing one scruffy, somewhat scraggly, and slightly worn out Kratt. He's been working on the city every day and tonight, decided to sit around on the network afterwards.]

Hey Hiccup if you're around, maybe after all this is over with we can finally sit down and look at that notebook you've got? So far I've noticed a lot of Digimon are similar to all the creatures I studied back home, and I'd really like to see if that trend continues.

[He rubs his chin in thought- looks like a couple fingers have bandaids around them -and then looks back at the camera with a little gesture.]

And anyone who's had a partner digivolve, I'd like to know what their normal stage is and what they digivolved to? I'm just trying to figure out a couple things for myself regarding the process. [Let's face it, for a biologist like him the whole thing was a little nonsensical, but cool, and he wanted to see if he could figure it out.]

Thanks ahead of time, to anyone who replies! [And he reaches forward to cut the initial feed- wait it looks like that wrist is wrapped up in some kinda brace-?

[ Misha settles quickly, a visor across her face while another band keeps her hair back. As Rufus settles up near her, Misha turns around—giving Chris full view of some nasty marks on her face—and frowns. ]

Hey, we're about to get in the air. Turn that off and tuck it down. What're we gonna do if we drop it?

I can hold it! But fiiine... [ At the least, the video clicks off. ]

Better. Anyway, yeah! Who'd have thunk a bear would turn into a bird? We're getting pretty good at going back and forth, too.

The level of strange is at least up there with the rabbit that becomes the elk.

[Yes 'Moosemon' but she's really more like an elk.]

That's something I'm trying to see, if there's any correlation between forms as Digimon digivolve. So far I've noticed a general theme- like, one animalistic one goes to another -but that's about it.

Really? An elk. I have got to pay more attention to what turns into what around here.

Then again, sounds like you're already doing that. Got any other good ones so far?

At the moment, I've seen candles become firecats, penguins become, well, Aquilamon.. [A soft chuckle.] And flowers become flower fairies, among others.

It's pretty fascinating but admittedly, a little confusing. [Doesn't mean he wasn't going to enjoy figuring it out though.]

Maybe it's something to do with neighboring data or whatever. Doesn't make sense to us or our taxonomy but follows an algorithm buried somewhere?

Did he say penguins becoming Aquilamon?

He sure did. You jealous?

Of course not. Curiosity is the name of my game.

That's another good point. Something else suggested was that it might be related to how some aren't the same people older that they were younger. Given the intelligence of Digimon, I wouldn't be surprised if that was an influence.

[He's grinning, if you can't tell by his tone.]

Yeah! My brother Martin's Penguinmon, Adele, digivolved for the first time a couple weeks ago, right into Aquilamon.

[ She lets out a low, impressed whistle. ]

Lucky you. Got some family here and everything.

Yeah, I've heard how lucky I am that that even happened.

[He paused here, because he's glancing around himself to make sure his Digimon are truly asleep. Then he continues.]

I don't know what I'd do if he wasn't here. It's really... ..nice to have him around.

[ Misha pauses, too. ]

Yeah, being separated from loved ones can be hard. Glad you don't have to deal with it, huh?

..To a degree, yeah.

I mean sure, Martin's with me, and that's great. But... We left behind the rest of the crew, and our friends.

I heard once that when you go back, it's like no time passed at all, so if that's true.. it'd be nice to know they won't even notice we were gone. But while we're here, we still miss them, so... it kinda sucks.

It just happened to me. Going back, I mean, and I can vouch for that. Nothing happens. You go home, you have no idea you went through anything, life goes on.

Think of it this way: while you're here, you aren't losing anything, just gaining time in less than optimal circumstances.

Well, that's a little comfort, at least.

[A note of thought.] Hadn't looked at it that way.

At least it keeps you from worrying. As long as stuff is stuck back there, nothing is going to happen while you're gone. [ Misha doesn't say the other thing that she knows all too well: if they're the only world that runs in constant, it means that if this world falls and takes the rest with them, no one from home is going to see it coming or be able to stop it. It's terrifying, and she's not one much to share those sorts of thoughts. ]

I'm pretty good at that. Looking at things the other way.

[There is no video feed, so Chris will not see what's taking place. But he will hear it, a crackle over the feed, like static.

Before Misha, with a tiny, slow-growing gray light, a pendant and crest appear, reflecting her inner thoughts.

It's the Crest of Sincerity, which eventually brightens up the whole room.]

That's definitely something to consider. It's nice to know they won't have to worry about taking care of things without us.

[He paused at the strange sound.]

What was that?

Whoa—

[ There's some laughter as Misha catches the amulet in both her palms, eyes closing halfway against the light until she has it safely in her hands. She cracks them open to get a better look, breath taken away by the idea that she apparently gets to be something special now. ]

Misha?

Misha, what was that?

All of you guys at once, really? [ Some more laughter as she inspects the symbol more intensely. ] Pretty sure I just got a crest!

A crest??

[Oops, that was a little loud. A cringe and he continues in a quieter tone.]

Congratulations!

[ Not like Misha minds the volume, so on her side she just grins and cups it closer to her chest for now without putting it on. ]

Yeah, a crest. I have no idea which one it is, but hey!

Can I see it, Misha?

[ A small, noticeable pause, some shifting around, then Rufus makes a baffled noise. ]

It's Sincerity! How about that?

[ That's when Misha busts out in laughter. ]

What?!

[She might not mind the volume, but his tuckered-out Digimon surely would.]

Sincerity? [Yet another new one, cool~

Sounds like she might not think it was much of a match, though.]

Sincerity. Apparently. It kinda looks like a cross...

[ She does, actually, have an inkling of understanding. However, it isn't some cut and dry thing like she figured it might be because anyone who knows her wouldn't quite call her truthful or forthcoming. But those aren't quite sincere, are they? Things are definitely getting interesting. ]

Wonder if that means we've got a new level to try for?

Huh, interesting... [He might want to see that sometime.]

A new digivolution level, right? It's been my understanding so far that a crest is needed to go above Champion, so yeah it sounds like it, if that's what you meant.

[ She'd be happy to show him. ]

Got it in one. Last time, when Thelma digivolved, it was kind of a hairy situation. Maybe now that we've got the hang of it, we won't need the life-or-death to get the kickstart up into Crest-level. A girl can hope, right?

It's certainly worth a try. [He thinks for a moment.] Though I wonder about that a bit... Why would a Crest be needed for something higher in the first place? What's special about a crystallization of your strongest trait that gives your partner access to a new form?

Definitely something more to look in to.

If you're going to ask that, you might as well ask why we need a digivice, too. Probably something to do with a power source, maybe the combination of them. Now it's something externalized so that the digimon can access it too.

Another good point. It looks almost like a symbiotic relationship, our Digimon get something out of us, and we in turn can get something out of them. For the Digimon, that looks like a way to get to their higher forms; or at least, for the first digivolutions I've been around for, the digivice lights up when we the partners are in need, the Digimon doing it for us. Whatever the digivices are, they seem dependent on the relationship between the person and their Digimon.
