06: Marshmallow test runs? [video]

[The feed starts with Saori and Kiyomi, her Gaomon, in the kitchen behind that cafeteria. Guren's holding onto the D-Terminal.]

I don't get it, Saori. Isn't still too early to be making stuff for this Christmas holiday?

Yes, Guren but it's a test run. I have to admit it's been a while since I made this sort of stuff and for a lot of people on top of that. And hey, you should've told me this was recording!

[She clears her throat.]

Yes, I'm planning on making hot cocoa mixes for everyone. I do have a few possible flavors like peppermint, spiced and even caramel and sea salt. Let me know if you have a preferred flavor, want to request something I didn't mention and/or if you want extra marshmallows or not.

Oh, speaking of marshmallows, they should be ready to cut now. Kiyomi, can you get the powdered sugar mixture we used earlier?

Sure thing, Saori! [She gets off the kitchen stool and walks off screen. A few seconds later, she can be heard and there's a sudden clatter and gasp. WHOOSH! A huge cloud of white flies up and covers even the D-terminal screen. Saori can be heard coughing as Kiyomi apologizes many times and a human hand reaches over to wipe the screen clean. ]

For everyone who has just arrived recently, I'm Saori and it's very nice to meet you all.

. . . Can you make strawberry? [Lalamon all up on the screen. As in: very close up.] With a digifuckload of marshmallows.

[Off-screen: Lalamon, who are you talking to? Lalamon covers the screen with a stubby arm.] No one.

[She's still in the middle of dusting herself off but stops to answer.]

Sure, I can do strawberry. What about your partner though?

[Now Lalamon's sitting in a sink.]

It's for her. She's so digilame that she won't ask you herself.

[Someone bangs on the door to the bathroom.] Did you lock yourself in there? I thought you said locking yourself in the bathroom is for digiweaklings!

[Lalamon looks away from the screen.] I'm taking a bath, god!

Why do you need my D-terminal, then? Are you texting Neku?

No! Why do you always think I'm doing something terrible?

Because I'm usually right!

[Now all three of them, yes even Guren and joined in to help with the clean up, all stopped and had to tilt their heads at the exchange. ]

I'll just go ahead and make two of those with extra marshmallows.

[It happens. Shiki and Lalamon have a complicated relationship.]

Thank you. For . . . being nice and stuff. [Lalamon sounds really unused to. Words that are not mean. She remembered though!] Shiki will probably, like. Knit you a sweater or something because you did something nice and she's digilame.

Oooh! Strawberry hot cocoa!

I kinda like the peppermint...

[Fluttershy hushes them both.] J-Just...regular would be all right if you're too busy with others...

I can do all three just fine, Fluttershy. This is for both Chosen and their partners. Besides, the more the merrier!

A-Are you sure? I don't want to cause too much work for you...

[She shakes her head and laughs. There's still some powdered sugar and corn starch on her but she doesn't seem to mind.]

It's not a problem at all. The mixes aren't that difficult to modify. Peppermint was already a given and I did plan on strawberry flavored ones so it works out alright!

W-Well...if you're sure...

Aww don't worry about me, Fluttershy. I might even have extras at the rate I'm going.

Mm...okay. Thank you.

O-Oh. That reminds me...I wanted to make a gift for you too.

Aww thank you.

[She has to think for a few seconds but then a lightbulb just went on in her head.]

Actually to be honest, I never did learn how to knit. Maybe after the holidays you could teach me? That could count as my gift.

Oh...yes, I can do that if you really would like to.

Hey. Hey lady. You wanna maybe make some raspberry? [Wow that sure is a Biyomon with a tough-guy voice.]

Give her a break. You could at least offer to help.

Ain't no one askin' you, rosebush.

[She doesnt' take any offense with the Biyomon's attitude. Instead, she just taps her in chin in thought.]

Hmmm...Raspberry as a hot cocoa flavor... That should be interesting to make!

Oh, it's not a problem at all, you two. How about for Waver?

Geez, I dunno...Hey, green tea, what's the little nerd like?

Green tea? Why, you... [Palmon fumed for a minute before frowning and folding her arms.] I don't think either of us know. He'd be grateful no matter what it was, even if he's kind of awful at showing it.

Kid's kind of a loser like that.

Ignore him. [Palmon shoved Biyomon out of frame, sighing.] Do you and your partners want any help?

[Saori and her partners can only blink and headtilt.]

Well, we could always use taste testers. The mixes aren't too hard to make but I want to make sure they're perfect.

What about pumpkin spice?

[ Pumpkin spice hot chocolate. It almost sounds too good to be true. ]

That's still kind of in season, right?

Sure! I'd be happy to make pumpkin spice cocoa. I can never get enough of it.

I don't even know you, and yet you are completely awesome. What's the going price for strangers?

Oh, it's nothing really.

Actually this is my Christmas present for everyone. No need to worry about anything like that. I know for some, it's tough to be away from family so I thought I could help with spreading some cheer.

One of the saintly-types, I see. In that case, you're doing good work and... seriously, thanks. What kind of flavors are you into?

[Did someone mention food? Duo immediately answers! Of course, he's just a little close to the screen so all you can see are his blue-almost-purple eyes.]

Hey! What are those? You can eat those, right?

Yes! I almost forgot not everyone knows what these are. Cocoa is a sweet hot drink people often drink in cold winter. Sometimes they add marshmallows.

[She pulls out a few finished marshmallows on a tray. Just in case, she picked up one for a closer view.]

They float in the cocoa and slowly melt. Of course they're pretty fun to eat on their own too.

[What's that saying about the way to a man's heart is through his stomach? Yeah, the same could be said about little boys.]

I know about cocoa, but those...marshmallows. Are they good? Like...now?

Yeah, they are actually. We made quite a lot for the test batch. I wouldn't parting with a few. We're in the kitchen behind the cafeteria in the newbie apartments.

Trust me we're gonna be here for a while.

[She's still dusting herself off from the powdered sugar and corn cornstarch explosion earlier.]

[Duo sits back from the D-Terminal screen enough to show the face of a child, probably between 6 and 8 years old. He stares a moment before the feed cuts out.

Several minutes later, the sound of the door to the cafeteria opening and closing can be heard. The slight scuffling of slippers on the floor follows, quick and actually rather quiet. Even entering the kitchen, mostly what can be noticed are sounds, though the occasional glimpse of a braid tail can be seen going around the corners of cabinets and tables. Things go quiet...

Until the sight of a small hand peeking up over Saori's work station is easy to be seen. It moves around, perhaps reaching for the marshmallows mentioned before.]

[Saori put a finger to her lips to shush her digimon, whose ears perked up when they heard the door open. She can't help but smile and quietly placed a few finished marshmallows on a plate and slid it over to where the hand was searching.]

[The little hand pats around the work station until it manages to find the plate with the marshmallows. His fingers wrap around a couple of them, and pull them off the plate and over the edge of the work station out of view. There's the soft sound of chewing (not the obnoxious kind) that is quickly followed by the hand once more popping up to take the rest of the marshmallows that are on the plate.]

[Cam hates always having to ask this--] Uh... there any way to make cocoa without milk?

Oh, a diet restriction?

[She nods and smiles.]It's been a while since I had to make it, but I'll give it a go! Thanks for let me know.

Thanks. I know it's probably a pain.

Anytime! I love a good cooking challenge!

What exactly is...cocoa? [So says the cat-girl. She's battle-scarred, across her right ear and eye.]

It's a hot drink made with milk, chocolate and a hint of sugar that's drunk during cold weather. Of course you can tinker it to your liking with extra flavors or whipped cream.

Mmhm, mmhm... ...I think most of those are sweet. Humans tend to like sweet things, don't they?

[She laughs.]

Yeah, you could say that. While we shouldn't be eating them all the time, we just can't resist the taste. You can be surprised to what lengths we take to making new sweets.

I guess I'll try one, when they're made. A good vole is still my favorite way of keeping warm.

Your beloved therapist would sure love some of that peppermint Cocoa with marshmellows~

How could we not celebrate winter holidays? From what I heard, every world seems to have at least one! I love this time of year!
