[Because he's heading from the Hospital to the entrance to town, walking with his head down, his crest of hope gripped tightly in his fist]

Yeah...I guess it was pretty dumb.

[Heavy sigh]

I just...don't know what to do man. She was my everything girl. My number one.

I don't know that there's anything that can be done.

[A blink and then he waves the hand holding the journal, while his other went to the bridge of his nose.] I don't mean that as bad as it probably sounded...

What I meant was. [He sighed a little and looked back at Beastboy with a soft, somewhat saddened smile.] Sometimes there isn't anything that can be done. You just have to kinda... keep living, and it'll get less day by day. Solace comes in what's still around you.

[Those were familiar words. He's sure he's said them to someone before. No wonder they had such a bitter look on their face when they heard it.

Hanging his head in defeat he stuffs the crest in his pocket.]

Guess you're right. Back to being a powerless green guy.

[Rubbing the back of his head]

I wish I could fly right now. Or go swimming, dolphins know how to have fun dude. They're like living missiles when they wanna be.

[Wiggling his hand to mimic a dolphin swimming]

[Animals! He could talk animals. Just watch.]

Oh yeah, gotta love dolphins! It's amazing the way they shoot through the water, there's nothing quite like it! Gotta be one of my favorite ways to get around in the water.

What I always thought was cool was dolphin language. Not only do they have a library of hundreds of whistles and clicks that mean everything from "Let's play" to "Shark!", they even have names.

Now that's creature cool.

[Relaxing a little, it's nice to meet a fellow animal lover]

Dude you're not kidding. I can sometimes communicate with animals when I turn into them, but Dolphin's have WAY better conversations then say like, pigeons.

Back home we've got these guys, Atlantians. They can talk to any aquatic life. They get a little snooty about it though.

Ahh, there's not anything to be snooty about with that. Sure, aquatic life can be fascinating with their way of communication, but so can land-based creatures too!

Take the proboscis monkey, for example. They have a huge range of kerhonks, roars, and other calls, all amplified by their huuuge noses. Not something often seen in monkeys!

Oh dude, I love those guys! Those noses right?

When I was a kid my parents took me on Safari with them. They were biologists, so I grew up chasing monkeys and spying on hippos and stuff. Then there was the whole super power thing, suddenly I'm watching alot more animal planet and going to the zoo weekly.

All for the better though, right? It kinda reminds me of studying. Like, when I was going through college I went to the zoo all the time.

Well, we went a lot when I was younger too, but it was a little different when I was working on making a career out of it. [He laughed softly.]

It's like... a crash course in animals. And the more exposure you have, the more you feel when you're finally hands on, y'know?

[That actually catches his attention]

So what were you going to college for? I mean you work with animals now so...what'd you study?

Well, that's what I went to college for!

You could say I've been working with animals all my life. Besides going to the zoo, I would always be out exploring with my brother, learning about the forests around our home and the creatures that inhabited them.

So when we grew up, we both chose to make animal study our careers. Martin became a zoologist, and I'm a biologist. As soon as we could, we took up creature adventuring full time.

Huh...never really thought about college.

[Sure is thinking about it now]

Hard to imagine after being here for almost a year that I'll be going back home someday. Anyday. It could even be tomorrow. And just...back to a normal life...well relatively normal for a shapeshifting superhero.

I guess leaving here isn't that much different from having arrived in the first place. [Abruptly plugged in, abruptly plugged out.]

You oughta give college some more thought, if you think it might work out for ya! Those powers of yours could be a real asset to the field.

Totally. I'm just ya know...not the best student.

I mean as far as I know...I was home schooled. Never went to a real school.

Ahhw, that doesn't make a difference. If your world's anything like mine there's even distance learning, for people who are too busy to attend normal classes, prefer the home environment to the classroom one, or want to attend a college in a location they can't move to.

That might be worth looking into?

That's something else worth looking into.

[He tucks his hands behind his head and tilts it back looking up at the stars.]

I guess I just always figured I'd be a superhero forever you know? Work with the Titans, train younger heroes once I was old enough. Maybe someday join the Justice League or even go back to the Doom Patrol.

But I could never leave the Titans even if I did those other things. They're my family. Not by blood but like...you know?

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. [A fond, reminiscing sort of smile.]

There's nothing wrong with that, or being a superhero all your life, or anything else you decide to do. The only thing to keep in mind is doing what makes you feel good, what your passion is. If you care about something, and it's fun and worth doing, then that's what matters.

My passion huh?

[He's running down a mental checklist. Terra, vegan food, video games, superheroics, comic books, TV, movies, his friends...not particularly in that order.]

All of that's gonna have to be on hold till we get this mess taken care of.

At least here gives you time to think about it, if nothing else.

...thanks for coming out here with me. I guess I did need someone to talk to. I didn't want bother anyone since I've had ya know...mood swings thanks to the Digital World glitches.

[His voice was light and a little joking, but friendly all the same. Then it softened as he held a fist out to Beastboy: brofist?]
