[The night after a big battle and before an even bigger one. The camp is lively with the sense of hope and comradary higher than most of the people around have ever experienced before. Strategies along with life stories were being shared around the campfires, when and where they were they first heard of Gurren Lagann's exploits, who had the bigger Gunman. So typical guy chatter.]
[Yoko passed them all, giving a nod and a wave to those who wanted her to sit down with them. Unfortunately for them, she was a girl on a mission, and that mission led her outside the camp, where a lone young man with impossible blue hair and a cape with Team Gurren's emblem was staring up at the full moon above.]
[He didn't turn around, but he knew it was Yoko watching his back. And, well, since she wasn't saying anything, he went ahead.]
What a beautiful moon. Just being able to see this makes me glad I came up here to the surface. [He paused, wanting Yoko to talk to him about this instead. But Yoko kept quiet, because she wanted to talk about that instead, and Kamina sighed.] We have to win. We can't afford to be slowed down. Not now. We'll keep stealing and stealing and stealing their weapons. We have to keep winning 'til they finally give up on the idea of attacking us.
And besides, I wanna give Simon and Forehead Boy and Gimmy and Darry a world where kids can look up at the sun without a care in the world.
Kamina... [His dreams for the future, this was him being honest like always but not in his usual bravado manner. He was actually sincere for once.]
Yeah?
...You have more brains than I thought you did. [A jab at his expense.]
Hey! Just who the hell do you think I am?
[Matter of fact.] You're Kamina, badass leader of the indomitable Team Gurren. The great one-
You're wrong!
Hm? [That obviously caught Yoko off guard.]
We're not Team Gurren. [Pushing himself up, Kamina showed Yoko the fruits of their labor before him. The stolen Gunmen their new comrads put themselves on the line to get. It wasn't just them and Gurren and Lagann anymore.] We're now Team Dai Gurren.
[Even though he couldn't see it, Yoko was smiling. But she quickly brushed it aside.] Even so, don't do anything crazy like you did today.
Hm? [Kamina finally turned his head, his eyes obscured by his sunglasses, but he was looking right at Yoko.]
There's always been a method to your madness. I could always just tell myself "if anyone can pull something off, Kamina can." But this afternoon was different: that wasn't reckless or even crazy, that was plain stupid. You rushed in there without thinking it through, and if Simon hadn't been there, you might very well have been killed. [A chastising, but one Yoko desperately needed to get off her chest. She looked up to him-hell everyone here was looking up to him. And yet, it was different for her. If anything were to happen to him...] I guess...that frightened me...
[There was a long pause, neither of them talking but they were both looking into the other's eyes. All she had to do was say those words...]
...Kamina-
[Cutting her off, the earth started shaking violently. No, it wasn't an earthquake or a Gunmen attack, this felt different. Suddenly, off in the distance, an explosion erupted from mountains, painting the sky in red and ash.]
Flames are coming from that mountain.
Belching fire and setting the earth ablaze. I don't think I could have asked for a more perfect setting for a once in a lifetime battle. Now I'm really psyched.
