Uh...hi, I guess.

My name's Waver Velvet, and I just got here recently. I wanted to ask--does anyone know if there's a library or a bookstore anywhere?

There are several libraries scattered across the city, but none of the texts are particularly useful in providing insight on how this world works.

Do you speak Japanese, or will you need a translator?

I can't really speak it, no. If it'd be troublesome for someone to translate, I can try to learn it instead.

It'd be easier on you to learn it yourself. Would you like someone to teach you?

Since the alternative is probably learning through books I can't read, I might need someone to.

That's probably fair. I wouldn't really expect someone to do that for nothing.

I won't charge you too much, since I understand you're new and don't have a proper source of income yourself yet.

Hn. Perhaps. Individuals here do seem to be mostly kind-hearted, though.

A few of the people I've talked to so far haven't been too bad, so you probably have a point.

I do wonder if its a coincidence, or purposeful. It does take a certain kind of personality to save the world.

Or to conquer it.

What kind of criteria do you think they use? I mean...can anyone be 'chosen' for this sort of thing, or is it only for certain people? And if so, what exactly differentiates people that're apparently meant to have a partner here and people who aren't?

Personally, I don't think there's a very strict criteria for it. I believe anyone can become a Chosen Child, regardless of personality or age.

D-don't get the wrong idea or anything. I was just thinking out loud.

[He waved a hand quickly to dismiss the idea.]

So if there's no real guidelines, what if the people that get taken here are just as liable to make this world worse as they are to help it?

That is a possibility. One that I don't think has been accounted for.

There's some kind of law enforcement around here, isn't there? How much power do you think they'd have over someone like that? Hypothetically speaking.

I don't know. I haven't seen that power tested yet.

Do you intend to test it yourself?

At any rate, there's still a lot to learn about this world. I'll keep my eyes open for whenever someone does tempt law enforcement with their behavior.
