[It's Kyouko on the D-Terminal this time, and she's sitting on the foot of her bed in her apartment. Labramon is curled up snoozing next to her, nose pressed against against her hip. Kyouko seems to be ignoring her for now]

We've been here a few days now, but I still feel like there's much to learn about this world and its inhabitants, regardless of what Labramon and Izumi-kun have told me. In an effort to gather as much information as possible, I have a request, for all of you.

Could you tell me what your digimon partner's name is? And to all of those partners, could you tell me a little bit about yourselves? What is your species like? Where did you live before coming to the city? Do. . . you require some sort of special diet?

[a beat]

I'd like to learn as much as I can about you, so I'd appreciate swift, accurate responses.

How do you define a "bad guy," Veemon?

Well...people who do bad stuff and hurt people. You know, bullies and dictators, people like that.

That's a very narrow definition. What counts as "bad stuff?" Does there need to be intent when someone hurts someone else, or do you count those who may hurt someone on accident as a "bad person?"

Well, if it's an accident it's an accident. But if they're trying to hurt people, then we've got a problem.

It's true that you shouldn't let someone hurt someone else intentionally. But you should look at all of the facts surrounding the situation, rather than just referring to them as a "bad guy."

But if they're trying to hurt people, then why shouldn't I call them bad guys?

[Kyouko was never one for moral conversations-- there was no room for morals in her profession. But she also couldn't condone not looking at all sides of an issue]

Take this hypothetical. What if a man is poor, and he has a dying, starving family to feed? No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get a job. And so, one day, he stole some food from a grocer's stand. The stolen food injured the grocer financially, and the man certainly tried to hurt him by stealing the food. But he needed the food to feed his family.

Is he still a bad guy?

Well...uh...I guess not? 'Cause he doesn't mean to hurt anyone, he's just trying to help someone who needs the food more.

I'm not interested in making any moral judgements on his behavior. But as a cautionary tale, make sure you look at a situation from every angle, not just one.
