[Veemon's holding the digivice this time, sort of semi-hidden from Starscream's view. The former robot is lounging on Shephard's couch, idly sipping on another one of her protein drinks.]

So... tell me again why we didn't help out during the attack?

[Starscream makes an irritated 'tch' sound and waves a well manicured hand at him.]

Because I don't care. I'm not going to help anyone until I get my real body back.

But...that might never happen!

[His lip curls and he grips the arm of the couch, eyes flashing.] Shut up! What do you know? I refuse to be left like this! [He gestures at his body and Veemon sighs, glad at least that he's gotten used to putting on clothing.]

....Okay. Sorry. But...you know. We missed out on getting some neat stuff. Some people got special things called 'crests' and a bunch of digimon even changed into bigger forms!

[That gives Starscream pause. His eyebrow twitches and he stares out the window.]

Helping out gets you powers?

Uh huh.

[The lanky human seems to consider that, taking a sip from his drink and resting his chin in one hand.]

Maybe we will help next time then.

Great! I can't wait! [Seems like its easier to convince his partner to do anything as long as a reward of some type is mentioned. Jeeze. Starscream is kinda greedy...]

[Golly, this seems like just the right kind of conversation to stick his nose into unneeded!]

[He tries his best to sound cheerful and friendly.]

[...He then pauses, tapping his chin a little with one of his stumps.]

[Wow, there sure is a lot of noise coming from the digivice all of a sudden. Starscream winces at the continual shouts of 'HEY MISTER'. He snatches it from Veemon with a grouchy snarl.]

Undersea...? [Splutter] OF COURSE NOT! Why would I be complaining about a human body- disgusting as it is- if I had formally been some...some kind of... water bag with fins?!

I don't know! That's why I was asking! You kind of look like a fish, though...

[Arcee's voice can barely be heard in the background. Last thing she needs is her partner pissing off undersea life.]

Are you kidding?! [There's no way the repulsive little creature could be serious. A fish?]

[He shrieks in response to the softer second voice.]

[His shrieking only feeds Tapirmon, even if it's not directed towards him.]

Arcee, this fish is giving me sass!!

[Of course, he doesn't. There's no fun in that.]

Come over here and say that you little- Arcee?

[He recognizes that name. She's the autobot teacher turned agent that they'd had to pry the secret codes out of.]

...That makes two autobots. [And two decepticons- himself and Swindle.]

Excuse me? I am not a little Arcee. Why don't you--HEY!!

[And just like that, the D-Terminal is ripped from his little stump hands because Arcee just can't take it anymore. There's only so much nonsense she can take in one sitting.]

Look, he's an idiot. If he's bothering you, just turn it off. You won't hurt his feelings, I promise.

There's nothing wrong with wanting some kind of payment for your helping out. [ Rin reaffirms this because let's be real here, this is how she lives her life. ] Equivalent exchange or something like that?

Oh well, what's this neat stuff? Crests..? Bigger forms--ugh, does that mean people are growing stronger while the rest of us are still stuck in the tutorial stage?

Of course there isn't. They can't just drag me here and ask me to save their kingdom or whatever for free. [At least there was one person in their right mind about this around here.]

[Veemon blinks when she addresses him, rubbing behind his neck nervously.] I-I guess. I don't know what the crests are, just that they have some power. Its probably what makes their partners all big and strong.

[He looks at Starscream pleadingly.] I want to us to do that. So I can be more helpful to you.

Geez, looks like you lucked out on a real honor scout here. Only wanting power to be more useful, hm, I don't think I can believe that. Everyone wants power for one reason and one reason alone, you know.

[ Antagonizing Digimon may end up being her new hobby at this rate. ]

Well, they're providing for you with this dump of a place to rest your head. Guess they think that's enough.

[Starscream snorts and shakes his head. Veemon reminds him too much of the opposing faction back home... niave and obsessed with morals.]

They do? What's the reason? [The little blue digimon asks, poking his index fingers together.]

If they think shelter is enough to get me to do their dirty work, then they're sorely mistaken. I could be back in my own universe right now- winning the war!

Winning the war? [ A scoff. ] Do you think a single person alone can win a war?

Well, that much is true. [ Rin's witnessed it in Hakuno and her Servant. ] Unfortunately, you're stuck here. So you can try to be a hero in this place or you can just continue to make things difficult for yourself by denying this world.

*Hey there Starscream, it's your other roommate and his Veemon. Looks like he's finally not in the library for once. And for some reason, he's carrying a katana even in his own home.*

There's also the fact that we have to live in this city as well. Unless you would rather live in the wilderness as opposed to a functional town with reliable shelter?

And it's just nice to help out. Don't you want to feel like you've accomplished something great?

Not to mention that ignoring someone's plight is a good way to make enemies in a place where the natives never truly die.

[Starscream's eyes slide up that katana, suddenly reminded of how vulernable he was in his new body. He would have to see about getting some armor. And weapons.]

Cleaning up this city isn't my job. Not for free it isn't.

[Veemon squirms when the other digimon mentions accomplishing something great. He really really does want to do that. But it's hard when your partner is Starscream.]

I didn't ignore anyone that knows me. [The former robot replies, hiding a frown behind a sip from his drink.]

They don't have to know you to resent your inaction. And you know...digimon seem to grow more powerful when they're called on to defend something.
