[The video switches back to reality with Waver looking pale and a little sick. He immediately cuts off the D-Terminal as Palmon can be heard asking him if he's going to faint.]

You look more upset about this than I am. And...you don't have to be sorry. Rider probably would've wanted everyone to see that--if he was here he'd probably be bragging about something or other.

[She finally steps back a little, shaking her head to try and get herself to stop...this.] I-I don't know how this happened, I-- I just hope you can see him again some day.

I...can't.

[Waver hesitated, but his voice was steady when he did continue.]

It's a lot of complicated magic that's hard to explain, but Servants like Rider and Archer...they don't have any recollection of past summoning. If they're defeated in one war and then called into another, it's like hitting a reset button. Even if I could see him again--which already isn't plausible--he wouldn't know who I was.

So...given that's the most likely alternative, I'm alright with this. As alright as I can be, anyway.

[She slowly begins to understand this...understand how much this loss must have hit him. She wipes at her eyes with her hands balled up into paw-like-fists.]

That's...cruel. Not even meeting again in the stars-- [She bites down tight on her lip and then grabs his hand with her own, swift and sudden. That's...how humans do this, right?]

I'll be your friend! [It's said with more determination and drive than one would probably imagine.]

Wha--

[He met the sudden declaration with genuine confusion and surprise, mouth hanging open as he struggled to figure out how to respond. No one had ever outright offered to be his friend before, much less so insistently.]

You...why?

Because I want to be! You said you haven't had friends, many, I'm changing that! You're a human, but I don't care about any of that!

Because I'll be your friend.

[She's a very, very social creature. She's grown up in a large group her whole life, and she's isolated herself recently-- and this, all this, has made her realize just what a bad choice that is.]

I...don't really...

[He faltered, looking to the floor.]

I don't...know how friends really act. Rider was the first one I had. But--but I guess if you wanted to, I'd be okay with that.

[She pulls down on his hand, pushing it up and down. She's seen humans do that before, when they're happy.]

I'll teach you! That's what we can study! I'll teach you how friends act around each other.

[Just as quickly as they started, her tears have dried on up. She's determined.]

I-I...is that really something people just study?

[If it was, you'd think Waver would be better at it.]

It is now. You'll study it, and I'll make sure you get really good at it.

Uh...o-okay. I guess I'll give it a try.

You'll do great. [She straightens her back a little.] I swear by StarClan on it.

O-okay. And I...I mean, it's a little tough to know where to start when it comes to teaching you about general human behavior, but I'll do the best I can.

Most...everything. Humans were a mystery to me before I arrived here...and they sort of still still are.

Like I said, it'd be tough to figure out where to start. [Waver thought for a second, fidgeting awkwardly as he continued.]

I guess I could show you how humans usually respond to things like this...it's a little embarrassing, and don't hold it against me if I'm not any good at it.

[With hesitant and mildly shaky motions, Waver put his arms around Hollyleaf in his best attempt at a hug. It was clear Waver wasn't used or accusomed to physical contact, but he was giving it a fair shot for her sake. (And maybe his own.)]

[How curious. She's used to physical contact being a way to provide comfort. It's how cats do it, after all, from friend to acquaintance to kin, so it's not awkward for her, even if it is for him. After a moment, she tests it, raising her arms and returning the hug. ...As it turns out, she's only a little taller than Waver.]

...Hm. I guess that's one similarity.

I-I guess so. [Waver was tense despite his best efforts to relax; he had an odd feeling he'd need to get used to this sort of thing.]

[Hollyleaf's tail gently sways back and forth. With that, she carefully disentangles herself; without contact like that in so long, even Fallen Leaves felt a bit off. The last time she'd had something like this was that fox kit, the one who ended up trying to kill her.

So maybe she's a tad giddy. It might show on her face.] Are you feeling a little better?

I...a little, I think. I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

[She shakes her head.] We're denmates. And friends.
