I know this might sound a little strange, but does anyone know if there's a flower field around here somewhere? It's kind of important.

[The figure on screen shifts slightly, one hand reaching for the rings that hang from a necklace she's wearing. It's a habit she's had for a long while and being in a new world's not going to make it any better. It just might make it worse, but that remains to be seen.

Before she can say anything else, the feed blurs as it's suddenly moved to face the cameramon. The angle is way awkward, because honestly the d-terminal isn't exactly designed for her paws. To make up for it, the DORUmon its filming has a huge toothy grin as she teases her partner.]

Come on! It's your first message and already you've forgotten to introduce us!

[This startles Rinoa from her slightly moody thoughts and she giggles instead.]

I was getting there, you're just too impatient!

Then you're just gonna have to be faster than me next time. ANYWAYS, before I was so rudely interrupted! I'm Dorothy, a DORUmon, and this- [The feed shifts again as the cameramon turns the feed to focus on her partner.] Is my partner Rinoa. Say hi Rinoa!

[Completely railroaded by her own digimon, Rinoa simply smiles and waves cheerfully.]

[ Did she seriously just name her DORUmon Dorothy? Color him completely unsurprised. Because it's probably pointless to leave it at audio since she'll just recognize his voice or to ignore her since she's Rinoa and she'll find out he's here eventually, he figures he might as well confront the problem now. ]

That's your first priority? When the hell did you get here?

[ He doesn't need to ask what she remembers. Seeing Griever around her neck gives him enough of an idea of how far along the timeline she is and that she knows. ]

[What? It was the first name that came to mind and she decided it was cute. What's so wrong with that? There's a moment of quiet as she absorbs the fact that Seifer's here. Their last meeting wasn't a very pleasant one and it takes her a few moments to decide how she feels about this bit of news. Of course a few moments isn't enough time, so she'll just have to wing it for now and figure things out later.]

I wouldn't have asked if it wasn't important. [Her hands settle on her hips as she answers, slightly defensive but at least not aggressive.] Not too long. A few hours? I had to play with Culumon, meet Dorothy, and then it took me a while to find my apartment assignment.

[Oh she knows alright, but she's also familiar with just how much power a sorceress can exert over someone. So she might just be the bigger person and try to give him a semi-clean slate.]

You had to play with Culumon?

[ She makes it sound like Culumon was holding her hostage. Well, okay, that stupid bunny is very needy when it comes to playing, but seriously. She and Laguna ought to start a space cadet club. ]

All right, I'll bite. Why's a flower field so important to you?

Of course! The poor thing seemed so lonely, I couldn't leave without playing for a little while. That would have been mean!

[No way! She just thought it was the right thing to do. No thanks, she's had more than her fill of space already. At his question she frowns slightly, but answers anyway.]

We made a promise. So I was hoping if I could find one, maybe it'd still work even here.

[ He doubts Culumon is lonely, what with how many Chosen appear in that room. Again, he's really not surprised by either comment. ]

So who'd you make this promise with?

I was making up for the people who wouldn't play with him. Kind of like you.

[Yes, she went there. Mr. Grumpy guts who doesn't much like animals. Don't think she's forgotten.]

Who do you think I made the promise with, Seifer?

[Because it certainly wasn't with him. Of course it's also not entirely his fault that she's currently feeling out of sorts. So she probably shouldn't take it all out on him.]

It was with Squall.

[There's a lot of questions she wants to ask, but she keeps herself from asking them. Because honestlyshe's not sure if she wants to know the answers.]

[ Well ain't she Miss Goody-Twoshoes! Not that he can deny that he has a dislike of animals in general.... They just... they're so nosy and bothersome! Plus! Plus that one dog was a trained Galbadian lookout, okay. He was right not to like it. ]

[ It wasn't like he was expecting the promise to be with someone like Zell or Zone, but... ugh. Man, having her around is going to be a pain. At least a couple weeks ago he would have been a little happy to see her. Not so much now. For all the progress he'd made in not being a shitty human being in the past six months, he's back to square one thanks to the virus. ]

You're right. Sorry. I guess I'm still a little jumbled up from arriving here. The trip was almost worse than Time Compression.

[More like he probably knew and just didn't want to acknowledge it. One thing they all seem to share is a thick head and far too much stubbornness for their own good.]

Yeah, I-I know. I've been talking to him. [And it's not going well, which Seifer would be able to tel-WAIT a minute.]

Floor 2, Room 008? Are you sure?

[ Oh. Well that's pleasant news, he supposes. Or at least news. Time Compression succeeded after all. ]

He's been living in that apartment since we both got here; of course I'm sure.

[She's going to have to break it to him that Time Compression failed isn't she.]

But that's just just across the hall!

[Surprise! New roommate!]

[ She might, though he honestly doesn't care that much anymore. Ultimecia's not here. Unless Ultimecia's possessing Rinoa, which he and Squall had discussed in the past. But no, Ultimecia wouldn't waste her time looking for a flower field. ]

...Just how far across the hall?

[Well good, then maybe she won't have to be quite so freaked out when she finds out they're living together.]

A few steps? My room's on the second floor, room 007.

[ HE WILL MOVE. MOVE FAR, FAR AWAY. Okay, so the district of his crest is like ten feet away from the Meeting Hall but that's not the point. ]

There's no way in hell that's your apartment.

[She's confused now, poor Rinoa. What'd she do wrong this time??]

Why couldn't it be?

Because I've been living in that apartment since April 12th, and I've been living there alone since the beginning of August.

[ Alone if you don't count Impmon, which Seifer never does. ]

Why would you be assigned to my apartment? Shouldn't you, I dunno, go live with your knight in sour armor?

Wait, they put me in your apartment? Why would they do that??

[Oh no, he had to go and mention the knight word. Thanks for reminding her that not only has her knight abandoned her, he also thinks she's a liar, and probably doesn't remember promising to be her knight either. She's not crying. At least not yet, but there's definitely moisture in her eyes.]

What knight. You're not talking about Squall are you? Because I'm pretty sure he wants nothing to do with me.

...Oh yeah.

[ He didn't... get around to telling Squall about Rinoa being a Sorceress yet. Not like he ever planned to, but that's mostly because he never expected Rinoa to show up. Then again, he should have known better. Laguna showed up, after all, so it only made sense other people he knew might pop up. ]

Well, even if he doesn't remember, aren't you still his employer? Just order him to talk to you or somethin', but I recommend not asking him to protect you; not sure he can pull that off right now.

[ Due to a partially severed wrist or something like that. He had absolutely nothing to do with it. Honest. Honest.... ]

[Gee thanks Seifer, now she's going to end up having to tell the Commander of the thing that is supposed to stop Sorceresses that she's a sorceress. Because that's going to go over well with the way things are right now.]

[Rinoa doesn't even think to ask why he couldn't pull off something so simple, she's too wrapped up in her own problems right now.]

[ Hey, he totally lightened the Sorceress burden thing a little! He reminded him that the Sorceress he was assigned to assassinate was the woman who raised them! Totally helping, right? Right. ]

Sounds like you're givin' up.

[Okay so maybe he was actually a little helpful, but only a little.]

I'm not! At least, I don't think I am? I just need some time. First a new world and then all of this? It's way too much.

[She's going to sleep for days after this.]

[ Yeah, well Rinoa's pretty good at the whole sleeping for days thing. ]

He's from way earlier along the timeline than either of us.

[ He knows what he's saying pretty much gives him away, but he doesn't care. She'll find out eventually either way. ]

So anything that happened before I met you guys in G-Garden is a no-go. If you'd come a week or two ago, your reunion probably would have been a bit happier. He's been a goddamn paranoid mess lately, throwing temper tantrums and being an over-dramatic, irrational dumbass.

[ On one hand, he's noticed Squall's not himself. On the other, he hasn't noticed that he's been just as bad. ]

So talk some sense into him after you get things sorted out.

[ It's one thing to live with a bossy Rinoa. It's a completely different thing to live with an upset Rinoa. ]

[At least this time she won't be comatose exactly?]

But how? None of this should even be possible! I thought all of this crazy stuff would be over since we stopped Time Compression and beat Ultimecia.

[Not completely over, she'd still be a sorceress and all, but she thought things would be relatively quiet at least.]

Before the Garden attack? But that was ages ago! [And yet it explains so much.] It's not like I could control when I got here. If I could, I would have stayed at home. So it's not like I had a choice.

[Rinoa's honestly not in a state of mind to tell if there's anything up with Seifer right now, another time maybe.]

I'll try, but it might take a while. It took ages to get through to him the first time. I don't see it being any easier here.

[But miserable and upset Rinoa makes the best roommate, he wouldn't even know she was there.]

[ Maybe she needs to beat Ultimecia better. She said she did win, but from how things are it doesn't look like she and the others won at all. Maybe they just thought they won? ]

If you got through to him once, you'll get through to him again. Do I really need to explain that to you? Complaining about it and cryin' about it aren't gonna help.

[ And he better not come home to either of those. ]

[Hey, this isn't craziness from their world. Don't blame this on them! The closest thing their planet has to digimon are the moombas and they don't count.]

You think I don't know that? I'm not giving up on anything and I'm going to be fine! It's just, I dunno. World travel jag? Is that even a thing? It probably should be.

[Rinoa smiles, it's small and tired, but it's real.]

Maybe it's weird, but I feel better now that we've talked. Thanks Seifer.

[He'll probably come home to sleeping princess Rinoa, whether that's better or not is for him to decide.]

[ He almost sounds shocked. It's not because Rinoa's smiling, but because someone in this city is smiling. He hasn't seen one of those in a while. ]

If we're gonna live together, we're gonna have to make it work.

[ At least he said "we" instead of "you" or "him." Some progress shining through beneath the crazy. ]

The bedroom closest to the door is yours.

[ Because his is the farthest one away, and Impmon sleeps in the middle one sometimes. ]
