I know this might sound a little strange, but does anyone know if there's a flower field around here somewhere? It's kind of important.

[The figure on screen shifts slightly, one hand reaching for the rings that hang from a necklace she's wearing. It's a habit she's had for a long while and being in a new world's not going to make it any better. It just might make it worse, but that remains to be seen.

Before she can say anything else, the feed blurs as it's suddenly moved to face the cameramon. The angle is way awkward, because honestly the d-terminal isn't exactly designed for her paws. To make up for it, the DORUmon its filming has a huge toothy grin as she teases her partner.]

Come on! It's your first message and already you've forgotten to introduce us!

[This startles Rinoa from her slightly moody thoughts and she giggles instead.]

I was getting there, you're just too impatient!

Then you're just gonna have to be faster than me next time. ANYWAYS, before I was so rudely interrupted! I'm Dorothy, a DORUmon, and this- [The feed shifts again as the cameramon turns the feed to focus on her partner.] Is my partner Rinoa. Say hi Rinoa!

[Completely railroaded by her own digimon, Rinoa simply smiles and waves cheerfully.]

Wait, they put me in your apartment? Why would they do that??

[Oh no, he had to go and mention the knight word. Thanks for reminding her that not only has her knight abandoned her, he also thinks she's a liar, and probably doesn't remember promising to be her knight either. She's not crying. At least not yet, but there's definitely moisture in her eyes.]

What knight. You're not talking about Squall are you? Because I'm pretty sure he wants nothing to do with me.

...Oh yeah.

[ He didn't... get around to telling Squall about Rinoa being a Sorceress yet. Not like he ever planned to, but that's mostly because he never expected Rinoa to show up. Then again, he should have known better. Laguna showed up, after all, so it only made sense other people he knew might pop up. ]

Well, even if he doesn't remember, aren't you still his employer? Just order him to talk to you or somethin', but I recommend not asking him to protect you; not sure he can pull that off right now.

[ Due to a partially severed wrist or something like that. He had absolutely nothing to do with it. Honest. Honest.... ]

[Gee thanks Seifer, now she's going to end up having to tell the Commander of the thing that is supposed to stop Sorceresses that she's a sorceress. Because that's going to go over well with the way things are right now.]

It doesn't work like that! And even if it did I wouldn't. I can't go back to just being his client, I won't!

[Rinoa doesn't even think to ask why he couldn't pull off something so simple, she's too wrapped up in her own problems right now.]

[ Hey, he totally lightened the Sorceress burden thing a little! He reminded him that the Sorceress he was assigned to assassinate was the woman who raised them! Totally helping, right? Right. ]

Sounds like you're givin' up.

[Okay so maybe he was actually a little helpful, but only a little.]

I'm not! At least, I don't think I am? I just need some time. First a new world and then all of this? It's way too much.

[She's going to sleep for days after this.]

[ Yeah, well Rinoa's pretty good at the whole sleeping for days thing. ]

He's from way earlier along the timeline than either of us.

[ He knows what he's saying pretty much gives him away, but he doesn't care. She'll find out eventually either way. ]

So anything that happened before I met you guys in G-Garden is a no-go. If you'd come a week or two ago, your reunion probably would have been a bit happier. He's been a goddamn paranoid mess lately, throwing temper tantrums and being an over-dramatic, irrational dumbass.

[ On one hand, he's noticed Squall's not himself. On the other, he hasn't noticed that he's been just as bad. ]

So talk some sense into him after you get things sorted out.

[ It's one thing to live with a bossy Rinoa. It's a completely different thing to live with an upset Rinoa. ]

[At least this time she won't be comatose exactly?]

But how? None of this should even be possible! I thought all of this crazy stuff would be over since we stopped Time Compression and beat Ultimecia.

[Not completely over, she'd still be a sorceress and all, but she thought things would be relatively quiet at least.]

Before the Garden attack? But that was ages ago! [And yet it explains so much.] It's not like I could control when I got here. If I could, I would have stayed at home. So it's not like I had a choice.

[Rinoa's honestly not in a state of mind to tell if there's anything up with Seifer right now, another time maybe.]

I'll try, but it might take a while. It took ages to get through to him the first time. I don't see it being any easier here.

[But miserable and upset Rinoa makes the best roommate, he wouldn't even know she was there.]

[ Maybe she needs to beat Ultimecia better. She said she did win, but from how things are it doesn't look like she and the others won at all. Maybe they just thought they won? ]

If you got through to him once, you'll get through to him again. Do I really need to explain that to you? Complaining about it and cryin' about it aren't gonna help.

[ And he better not come home to either of those. ]

[Hey, this isn't craziness from their world. Don't blame this on them! The closest thing their planet has to digimon are the moombas and they don't count.]

You think I don't know that? I'm not giving up on anything and I'm going to be fine! It's just, I dunno. World travel jag? Is that even a thing? It probably should be.

[Rinoa smiles, it's small and tired, but it's real.]

Maybe it's weird, but I feel better now that we've talked. Thanks Seifer.

[He'll probably come home to sleeping princess Rinoa, whether that's better or not is for him to decide.]

Wow. You smiled.

[ He almost sounds shocked. It's not because Rinoa's smiling, but because someone in this city is smiling. He hasn't seen one of those in a while. ]

If we're gonna live together, we're gonna have to make it work.

[ At least he said "we" instead of "you" or "him." Some progress shining through beneath the crazy. ]

The bedroom closest to the door is yours.

[ Because his is the farthest one away, and Impmon sleeps in the middle one sometimes. ]

So? I smile all the time! Did you forget?

[Rinoa's mostly teasing him, but she's also checking too because dang she can't trust anyone to remember anything right now.]

Avoiding each other as much as possible isn't my idea of making it worse.

[She's pretty sure that'd just make her miserable in the long run, despite how wary she is of him.]

Thanks. I was going to ask, because it feels like I could sleep for a week!

I didn't forget. It's just been a while.

[ He's not that far behind her; only a few minutes away from... shoving her at Adel. ]

Go ahead; do whatever you want. Oh, one house rule, though. Nothing sweet enters the apartment, got it?

Not that long.

[Ah yes, his crowning moment of awfulness right there.]

What?? But why??

[Yes, she is in fact whining at him. She can't live with rules like this, Seifer.]

There is no way I'm going to agree with that rule and you know it, so you'd better have a good reason.

[Because separating Rinoa from her snacks is a criminal offense.]

Even if you bring sweets in, you won't get any. This "partner" of mine is like a vacuum around sweets. He'll sniff 'em out and eat 'em before you can and even if you don't have 'em, he'll beg for some. It's a headache to deal with, so just eat whatever's sweet in the cafeteria.

[Maybe they can tie. Good job Seifer, choices so bad you can't even have a clear first place.]

I don't know. All I'm hearing is "Rinoa put a lock on your door". So I think I'll just take my chances after that.

[She needs that lock anyway, no offense. It's going to be a while before she feels completely safe around him again.]

[ He tries. ]

Then go put a lock on your door. I don't really care what you do as long as the stupid pixie isn't clawing at you or your door, trying to persuade you to give him sweets in the middle of the night.

[ No one can blame her. ]

[Try less.]

You don't think he'd really claw at my door. There's no way he's that bad. I bet you're making this all way worse than it is. [God help Impmon if he ever wakes Rinoa up in the middle of the night.]

I don't think. I know. But go on, believe whatever you want. You have my full permission to throttle him when he proves me right.

[Which leads to something else though.]

I know they're not exactly human, but shouldn't you be able to whip him into shape just like all those cadets you used to tell me about?

Trust me, I've tried. Normal weapons don't work against them, even the pipsqueaks. It's like a physical-based Reflect spell. When the most I can threaten and follow up on is tossing him out the window, that doesn't exactly lead to a well-behaved Digimon. Not when he can land just fine anyway. I prefer to just ignore him.

I didn't say to attack him! Geeze, Seifer not everything is about violence. [She'll stop the lecture there for now.] You used to make them do all sorts of ridiculous stuff, didn't you? Running, chores, and things like that?

[ He tried to do other things before the violence. Apparently the best thing that works is flat-out ignoring him. He just happened to find that out after the attempts at violence. On the other hand, Impmon makes a great target for practicing with his gunblade. ]

You're missing the point. Back home, I actually had some power; even if I wasn't a SeeD, I was still the head of the Disciplinary Committee. They knew if they didn't shape up, they'd end up in detention or in a disciplinary hearing. I could threaten the pixie a million-and-one-ways, but we both know I can't follow up on a single threat. The most I can do is not talk to him, but that feels a little juvenile.

[ Even for him. Besides, it's just annoying. Most days. Right now, he appreciates the silence his apartment had been having. ]

[That settles it. Rinoa knows way too many weird people. How did this happen?]

Maybe, I guess I'll wait and see how he is for myself first. [And then try to come up with zany ways to make him behave. Oh well, watch her change the subject.]

For what's basically a bachelor pad this place is actually pretty neat. I'm impressed.

[She's trying to be nice and keep things neutral, she really is.]

Might as well. If you can get him to behave, more power to ya.

[ It's been half a year. At this point, ANYONE able to get his stupid little pixie to behave like... something that doesn't have a sweets addiction is okay in his book. ]

...Uh, thanks. I guess. I'm not in the apartment much these days anyway, so it's not like I have time to mess it up.

I'll see what I can do, just leave it to me!

[Not that she's trying to earn brownie points with him or anything like that, since as far as she's concerned he's the one who should be earning them.]

I probably should have expected it anyway. I can't imagine anyone from Garden leaving their room a mess.
