006- Accidental Broadcast [video]

[Today's broadcast is brought to you by Shepard's D-Terminal... But she's not on the screen. Nor is Monodramon. Instead, it's shaky footage taken from eye level, and it very rapidly becomes apparent that it's battle footage. From Shepard's helmet.]

[Of the first 7 and a half minutes of this. (Spoilers for the end of Mass Effect 2! Those who don't want to watch all 7 minutes can get the gist from the first thirty seconds and a quick glance at 6:10.)]

[Why? Well. Shepard figured out how to transfer files from her helmet's eyepiece to her D-Terminal, and determined that clip dangerously classified and disturbing enough to flat up delete, rather than risk anyone stumbling upon it.]

[And Monodramon has just broadcast it to the entire network by mistake.]

[ Your modesty is charming, Shep, but Wally will have none of this. You are now a superhero in his eyes, okay. You have now reached Flashtier of respect and admiration. ]

You can be both, you know. Wonder Woman's an Amazon warrior, and Captain Atom is, well, you know, a captain. Or, well, former captain. He doesn't work for the military anymore. It's kinda part of his backstory. He's technically dead according to official record.

But anyway, that's not the point. The Justice League would be proud to call you a member, if it still existed in the future.

[ A beat, then a nervous smile and the hint of color on his cheeks. Oh, he's going to be sappy again. ]

I'm definitely proud to know you.

[She smiles a little at the praise, but she still shakes her head.]

From what you've said, I don't think they'd like my kill count. Less of a superhero and more of a war hero-- more allowance for blood on your hands. But thanks, kid.

[You can hear it in her voice; if he was here in person, she'd be ruffling his hair.]

[ He's still not completely convinced she isn't a superhero. Yeah, most of them don't kill people, but they're also not at war with giant evil space aliens. He tries not to look too disappointed that she doesn't agree with him. ]

Yeah... but still. You're the kinda person I wanna be someday.

... Maybe with less killing, though.

[Shepard grins.]

Then I wouldn't advise my career path.

[ Wally laughs. ]

I'll keep that in mind when I'm thinking about college. I mean, as much as I respect the military, I don't really think I'm suited for it. Even if that's a fully funded college education right there.

[Shepard shrugs.]

I skipped the whole 'college' thing entirely. Being a marine worked for me.

And look where it got you. You're a certified badass, Commander. The closest I'll ever get to that is in Halo.
