So do any of us actually have any useful information about the gates yet? We can't just sit on our asses every time we're not being attacked by digital bugs. Most of us have been here two months and there are people who've been here even before then; someone has to know something.

It... ...We found it, Iori and I, during the scavenger hunt. I...don't know if you did the scavenger hunt. But after some kind of task, the name of a...crest appeared. Except, not just the crest's name appeared. Suddenly this...rainbow light appeared. Except it didn't get created.

...I think it was hidden.

So you and this Iori person found a crest and some rainbow light that may or may not have been there all along. That what you're sayin'?

N-not a crest, just...the name of one... Yeah. Sorry. I know it sounds ridiculous. It was just...what it seemed like at the time.

[ Seifer frowns down at his D-Terminal. ]

Nothing sounds ridiculous here. Have you taken a look around lately? None of this is normal. I do have another question for ya, though: you scared or somethin'?

[Cam's surprised at the frank question.] No. Not now, just... Feeling off. [He doesn't really know how to describe it yet.] And, when I saw it, the field, it wasn't a good time.

[ This kid... this kid is weird, he decides. ]

What was it like?

[He hasn't met this guy, really, and he realizes that now, but he...glances down and answers.]

Overwhelming. We'd been out all day, got a question wrong, didn't even know if this was right... The task wasn't...what we were expecting. And then, there was that, suddenly just there.

[He takes a moment to rethink.] ...Yeah, I think I was a little scared.

How do you know you got it wrong if it appeared there anyway?

[He smiles a little.] We did two. Questions, I mean. First one, we got lost, found the crest name, but uh. We had to figure out which one it was. ...It sorta burst into flames when we placed it, so... [Helpless shrug.] The second one, with the...Dark Field, that one we got right.

Sounds like this Dark Field thing scarred you for life.

It did not! We didn't even go in it, I told you I was just overwhelmed. [You're embarrassing him.]

Doesn't sound like "just overwhelmed" to me.

[ Then again, his definition of overwhelmed is a bit... extreme. ]

Look, it's not just that, it was, I, before it appeared I saw my mom, okay? And I thought I might not see her again, so-- yeah, I was overwhelmed.

Well don't get all bent out of shape at me. I'm just askin' for info.

[ And hey, he learned that unsurprisingly, "Dark" anything probably isn't a good thing. ]

You could do it a little nicer.

[He's flustered; he didn't want to yell, he just did.]

I've learned that "nice" doesn't always work.

[He stops himself, it seems, biting down hard.]

[ Laughing a little. ]

I think you're a little confused. Ya might wanna give that abruptly cut off speech to someone else. Squall Leonhart would probably be a good candidate. I bet the two of you could be real good friends, since you're both so similar.

[A quiet, grumpy mumble.]

What's so confusing about wanting to get along with people?

Because we're not all going to like each other no matter how much goody two-shoes like you may want it. I ain't gonna be nice or sugarcoat things to get people to like me. That ain't me, and all that would do is make people like a fake persona of myself. Besides, we don't all have to like each other to get things done, anyway.

It'd make it easier to work together... [Sighs.] Fine. Whatever you say. I don't feel like arguing.

You've gotta learn to separate your personal feelings from getting the job done. Otherwise it looks like you're gonna end up miserable.

[ Of course, he doesn't practice what he's preaching at all. ]

And I think most of us have enough reason to be miserable since we're stuck here in the first place. Don't be a dumbass and give yourself another reason.

[ For as much of a bully as he tends to be, he can't bring himself to pick on this kid. He won't even stand up for himself properly; it's like kicking a defenseless baby. The kid probably doesn't have any military experience either, so it's more like burning ants with a magnifying glass. ]
