[A little girl who a few might recognize is up on the feed, early in the morning. Looks like she's in the city.]

Hello! With everyone coming and going, a lot of you might not know me, but I'm Hikari Yagami, one of the earlier Chosen Children. With my brother and the others out looking for clues... [And leaving her behind.] I'm sort of...a home-base, he called it.

He told me since some of you are restless here, you can help Koushirou-san. He's trying to get data for a device to shut down the Dark Fields, but he's also trying to research that virus we heard about, so he can't get it himself... That's why my brother told me to use that mission board the Trailmon set up! We need at least four people each to go to the four Dark Fields and get data from them.

You don't need to go inside, don't worry! Just have someone get close enough to stick a data-gatherer in and the others keep any wild Digimon distracted.

[A very tiny pause.]

Gatomon and I can help, if anyone needs it. Just don't tell Taichi.

[ooc: What Hikari's referring to are these missions here for the last week of August, recently put up. This will be important for September's plot.]

Elecmon says there's always a certain number of eggs, like from Digimon fighting each other. It's never more than...maybe fifteen a week, unless something really big happens.

But...the castle, or the invasions into the city... They didn't cause any more. It's like the Digimon who're killed are just...disappearing.

[Hey, this is a good thing, learn how to curse early.]

... You're fucking joking. That's... Chika said something about beams that could permanently kill a Digimon, but they didn't affect higher-level ones. But if this virus could prevent their reincarnation as well...

... No, we might be missing an obvious solution. Permanently killing Digimon doesn't do anyone any good, there's no benefit to be gained. Is it possible instead of killing them, they're being rerouted elsewhere when they die? So their eggs can be raised and set out on us again.

We don't know. That's just Elecmon's theory. I've never heard of digi-eggs going anywhere but Primary Village unless the egg belongs to a Chosen...but nothing about this is anything we've seen before.

Koushirou-san's trying to make something that can extract data from one of the virus Digimon, so he can analyze it. He needs data from the fields before he can, though. That's why this is the first step.

Is that brat in a place I can contact him? My Crest built itself out of an infected Digimon.

I didn't know crests could do that...

I'll try to get in touch with him after helping with the Dark Field near Primary Village. Koushirou-san sometimes forgets to check with the outside world when he gets into a project, and having this data might help.

To be honest, it seems like there's a hell of a lot you lot don't know.

The crests my friends and I got were just inside things, or hidden places...or mine, which was different. This Digital World, ours...they act differently from each other.

Sorry. We don't know much, but the rest of you are even less familiar, so this must be worse for you. I'll try to talk with Koushirou-san and see if he can figure out a few answers.

Frankly, it's shit for everyone, but it'd be less shit if your friends would actually check in once in a while.

[She sighs, in that guilty-little-kid way.] We'll do better now...

And mine, um... Myotismon, an evil Digimon, found it and used it hunt me down after he invaded Odaiba.

... How in hell did someone else take your crest? I thought those things only appeared for their chosen asshole.

I told you. They worked differently back home.

There was one of each crest there, and they were kept for us, the Chosen Children, for safekeeping, until Piedmon stole them. He gave them to Devimon, who hid them around Server, but Myotismon somehow got mine. Taichi says he found his hidden as a cave wall, and Mimi-san got hers from inside a giant cactus.

... You're not helping me hate this place less. A giant cactus, you're fucking joking.

Though, those differences are rather odd. Do yours have any functions other than metamorphosis?

I don't think so. ...Well, in desperate times, they sometimes saved us. But I think that happened with some of the others, in the Dark Field.

...And they did once bring us all back from deletion.

[Says Hikari so matter-of-fact.]

But that was after their physical forms were destroyed. I think the energy of our crests are inside of us the whole time, and these just help send it to our Digimon.

[Says eight-year-old Hikari so matter-of-fact, jeez kid.]

Back the fuck up to that "brought you back from deletion" part.

Apocalymon deleted all of us, and we wound up in a digital void...but we refused to be deleted and our crests started to glow, even though they'd been destroyed.

Our Digimon all digivolved and we were back again, so it's like our crests saved us. I think it was really just us again. The Digital World can do some really amazing things.

[If Hikari is paying close attention, Alex is extremely freaked out right now, but keeping a tight lid on it. Breath coming quick, but eyes narrowed in focus on the kid on the screen. Her words, when she speaks, are coming out carefully measured.]

... When you were 'deleted', were your Digimon deleted as well? Or was it just you?

Digimon too. I think Apocalymon wanted to delete all of us at once.

[Hikari may or may not notice Alex freaking out, but if she does, she doesn't mention it.]

... Do you have any damn idea what you've just said?

Um... That our crests brought us back to life?

Yes. You've got the key to fucking immortality with these things. There's- Fuck, there's no way to test its limits, are there? Short of actually dying. But if you can live past dying, and even bring your partners back... If that was in you, and as you said, the crests are just training wheels, and you can transmit immortality to your partner that way...

I don't know about all that... Maybe it's just in our Digital World... We compared with some other Chosen when we got here and it wasn't like that for them.

Noted. Most of you with experience seem to be operating under different rules. One girl can hide her Digimon away in her Digivice, and another, and the whiny brat with the scarf, can use fucking trading cards to support their Digimon. I've been wondering since the start why, when all of those are possible, we'd be stuck with the Digivice that can't do anything at all, but if these Crests are hiding some secrets, then we may not be as bad off as I thought.

Maybe yours just need to be in the right situation. They look a lot like the Digivices we got, and they were able to drive out darkness from Digimon sometimes, or hold some bad Digimon in place.

You never know, maybe yours will do something like that too one day.

Be as that may, a tool that you don't even know has any use except under shitty circumstances is nowhere near as useful as something versatile like those card-kids'. Especially given that most of the ones here, especially kids your fucking age, are only useful as glorified batteries to your Digimon.
