MEMORY SEQUENCE 002 - VIDEO

[lifescratched]

[The camera cuts abruptly to a view from the roof of a building, giving a panorama over one of the bridges and the river of the city. How the D-Terminal's owner got up to such a height is unknown, but who it belong to becomes obvious when Armadillomon shuffles into view. He pokes his nose over the edge of the roof, looking a little green.]

I don't know why you had to carry me up here... Couldn't I have just waited on the ground where it's safe?

[Then there's a brief glimpse of Connor's hooded face as he sets the D-Terminal down, perching himself on the edge of the rooftop. Apparently the multi-story drop doesn't make him flinch in the least.]

There. [The camera is angled toward, in the distance, Tokyo's Statue of Liberty.] Look at the tablet she is holding. It has a date on it -- "4th July, 1776".

[This means nothing to Armadillomon, who is only looking more anxious.] All right, now you've seen it, can we get down?

Wait. [He places a hand on Armadillomon's shell, as if to soothe his nerves.] I wish to know the meaning of the other date. "14th July, 1789". [Now his attention is on the D-Terminal, which he glances down to.] Is anyone able to tell me? And why is such a statue in a place such as this? It should not belong in this world.

Dunno, I've never seen a statue like that before. What is it?

I believe it depicts a symbolic representation of liberty. One of the dates inscribed is the date of the Declaration of Independence for the United States.

Why it is here in this world and this city, however, I could not begin to guess. This city is a strange place indeed.

I'm from Earth, too, but I don't know that country. Does America have a country like that? Though if that statue is what they think looks good, I'm glad I don't know.

The Statue of Liberty is here because the Digital World has merged with the Real Worlds. Since this city has several landmarks from modern day Tokyo, Japan, I would assume that statue is from Japan.

Does that answer one of your questions sufficiently?

Somewhat. But why have a statue in Japan commemorating a date in American history? Or is it significant to Japanese history, as well?

No, it isn't. A replica was built in Tokyo as a simple tourist attraction. There are several of them worldwide.

[From beside him, Armadillomon can be seen passing a paw over his face. Seriously Connor, you ask too many questions. All the time.]

[there is probably some vague history of america in nill's post apocalyptic world, but she doesn't know it. she does, however, take a little while to consider before shaking her head. and she doesn't mind "talking" to him this way--she's learned very quickly (with the help of renamon) that people can't just jump through the d-terminals and out at her.]

[Connor pauses at the girl's silent response.]

You do not know?

[He guesses it's to be expected. Not everyone is from the same world or time here.]

[she shakes her head, offering an apologetic smile. she wishes she could help, but history is a funny thing back home. history, seasons, technology. nobody can decide on anything in the DOGS universe, let's just say that.]

[He's put out by her lack of verbal response, but perhaps she's shy? It's to be expected, talking to a stranger and not even being able to view them in person. And Connor's well aware he tends to intimidate people.]

[he's thanked her, and he sounds like he means it. though she is shy, she smiles and nods. carefully, she types out:]

[ Well now, there's a date he knows. It takes him back to the life of Marie Antoinette, whose soul he judged at her death.... The statue, by comparison, is more alien to him. The original is only a couple years old in his home time. ]

Well, I can answer the question the others haven't yet, but I don't just give out information for free....

[ Ah, how he misses his shop. Trying to barter for trivial information with all these lost souls is simply nothing in comparison to the workings of the underworld... not that he's going to stop trying just yet. ]

[ He gets that a lot. It gets a titter, but not enough of one to qualify as payment. He sits back and stops crowding the screen of his D-Terminal, which is totally a thing he was doing. ]

Then I have no information for you. Although... I suppose I could offer you a deal, since it's a fairly trivial date. [ By his standards. ] Don't you know any jokes at all?

I climbed.

[Said as though it's the most normal thing in the world. Armadillomon, on the other hand, is sounding more and more nervous the longer they stay up so high.]

Can we find some stairs to get back down? Maybe an elevator? Please?

And why did ya climb the Statue of Liberty exactly?

I wanted a better view. [And he guesses he should clarify--] I climbed a building near the statue, not the statue itself.
