Got one too. Came from the corpse of a defeated enemy. Don't trust it. I'm going to post my research notes as soon as I've finished compiling them, but the short answer is, don't trust the necklace, and probably better not to trust your supposed 'partner' until we have more answers.

Terri, don't. She eats and sleeps and fights with me. I trust her completely. As for these Crest things... that I can agree with at least some. Random magically benevolent items from nowhere seems a little to... convenient.

Digimon knew what they were. They've been withholding information.

Furthermore, our 'partners' were given to us by the same force that gave us our Digivices, and that source, I think I've just seen has a definite interest in making sure we're not too powerful. Despite giving us these crests at the same time. We're missing too much information. Digimon could potentially be double-agents, even if they aren't aware.

A lot of them are like kids, so honestly I wouldn't be surprised if they never considered it. And how Terriermon talks about it they seem like a 'magical' occurrence. They probably didn't think we'd get them, or that only those that were here before could.
